WWE SmackDown: Bayley won’t get away with using Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks and Bayley continue to be the best part of WWE SmackDown every week, and they planted another seed in their potential SummerSlam rivalry.
While many wrestling fans were ultimately disappointed Sasha Banks and Bayley didn’t have a SmackDown Women’s Title match at WrestleMania 36, they are very much ready for a fantastic story on WWE SmackDown in the months leading up to SummerSlam.
Bayley and Banks are two of the best wrestlers on the planet, and they have been the highlight of SmackDown over the past several months with their two-woman power trip. They always like dropping hints and planting seeds, and after WrestleMania, it’s clear the two are on a collision course for a title match at SummerSlam.
On the Apr. 10 episode of WWE SmackDown, the Boss’N’Hug Connection planted another seed hinting at a future breakup. (Note: Get “the good” ice cream ready NOW.)
Tamina, who has become a prominent part of the SmackDown Women’s Title picture recently (and this is good!), challenged Bayley to another title match. But Bayley, of course had other ideas. Instead of offering Tamina an opportunity or even an opportunity to prove herself against the champion, The Role Model decided to offer Tamina a difference chance.
A chance at Sasha Banks’ expense.
That’s right. Bayley told Tamina that if she could defeat The Legit Boss in a singles match, she would prove herself worthy of a one-on-one title opportunity with The Leader Of Sheep.
Basically, Bayley used her best friend as a pawn, which Tamina quickly pointed out to Sasha, informing her former Team BAD stablemate that her best friend “screwed” her with that decision.
But Banks already knew that. When Bayley Banks up for Tamina to go through, Sasha’s face said it all. She was stunned and betrayed. This wasn’t a planned setup for anything pre-agreed between the two close friends; The Boss was thrown under the bus by Bayley, who decided to use her close friend.
Given their history together, Bayley fans and others will point out that turnabout is fair play. And I can see that. But what matters here is how Banks feels. Knowing The Boss as a character – I mean, her nickname suggests she does NOT like being used, even if it’s to help her friend – she won’t let this one slide.
Of course, knowing The Boss, she’s already had something planned ever since it was announced she’d face her best friend in a multi-woman title match at the Show of Shows. Recall that she helped Bayley, despite a miscommunication teasing otherwise, retain the title over Lacey Evans in the final two of the elimination match.
Sasha Banks may have helped Bayley retain the WWE SmackDown Women’s Title out of the goodness of her heart, but I think she did it in order to be the one to beat her best friend one-on-one when the time is right.
After Bayley tried to use Banks by putting her in a match against Tamina, the path, in Banks’ mind, may be set. She won’t let Bayley get away with this one. The Boss never forgets, and she always pays it back in full.
(Say it with me: story of the year.)
