When this is all over, WWE need to push Roman Reigns to the moon
In a post-lockdown world where coronavirus is less of an issue, WWE need to push Roman Reigns harder than they have ever pushed him before.
By now, most of us know that Roman Reigns was set to beat Goldberg for his Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36 prior to the novel coronavirus outbreak, but out of concern for his own well being as someone who is immunocompromised, Reigns wisely backed out of both Mania and all future WWE events moving forward.
As a result, it was Braun Strowman who had that spot as the new champion and moving forward will run SmackDown as the face of the brand. With the timetable for when the curve of the coronavirus rates may flatten (as well as when lockdowns may end) remain uncertain, so does the timetable for Roman Reigns’ return to WWE TV.
One thing we can at least rest assured and feel hopeful about is the fact that one day, all of this will be over. And by the same sword, one day, when all of this is over, Roman Reigns will be back. And when he’s back, WWE need to go all in on pushing him.
In theory, that should be a given just to make up for lost time, but it’s more than that. In Reigns’ absence, the WWE Universe finally understand (if they didn’t already) the value which the former World Champion brings to the table.
A SmackDown without Reigns just isn’t the same SmackDown. Obviously it hasn’t been the same SmackDown since crowds disappeared, but the kind of luster and shine that he brought to the product as the brand’s leader is absent from recent episodes.
His harshest of critics have venomously downgraded any and all attempts by WWE in the past to highlight Reigns as the undisputed top star of the company, but now more than ever, it’s clear why that push is justified.
Due to his polarizing crowd reactions, WWE have often been hot and cold on pushing Roman Reigns as their top star. He would be on a hot streak one minute and then lose a string of high profile PPV matches the next.
But now more than ever, when Reigns is back on television, WWE must fully commit to pushing Reigns regardless of what critics may think.
Time and time again, he has exuded the presence, confidence and intelligence deserving of a top star’s mantle. It’s about time WWE treat him as such. He’s proven himself to that testimony more than he ever has before.
We’ve heard constant stories about Roman being a locker room leader in front and behind the cameras, but in being up front enough to put his own health ahead of a wrestling push truly shows how he practices what he preaches. Not a lot of people would have made the same decision.
