Return From Injury

HHH suffered a major injury during the May 21st edition of Monday Night RAW in 2001 during the main event match where he and Steve Austin teamed up to defend their tag titles against Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho by tearing his left quad muscles.

Despite the pain he was in, Hunter would finish the match up, and eventually undergo surgery and a strict rehab process that would leave him out of action for eight months.

They say the comeback is greater than the setback, and HHH would prove that well when he officially return to the land of the WWE on the January 7th edition of RAW, in 2002 to a roaring Madison Square Garden live crowd.

Royal Rumble Win(s)

From King of the Ring, to Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion, HHH has accomplished a lot in that squared circle, and one only has to look at his WWE resume to acknowledge that. Still, one of two greatest moments any WWE superstar can achieve is winning the Royal Rumble to move on to main event WrestleMania, a milestone he first hit in 2002.

Helmsley would win the Royal Rumble that year and move on to face Chris Jericho for the Undisputed WWF Championship. HHH would not only close WM 18 that year, but also defeat Y2J in the process to become the NEW WWF champion!

Ironically, history would (somewhat) repeat itself 14 years later, when HHH was involved in the 2016 Royal Rumble match. As the then-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns was required to place his title on the line for this bout, HHH’s music would hit near the end of the match, as The Game was handed that pivotal and comfy 30th entrant spot.

Playing a massive heel at this point, he eliminated Roman Reigns, and moved on to throw Dean Ambrose over that top rope, scoring the 2016 Royal Rumble as well as his 14th WWE title.

HHH would move on to close Wrestlemania 32, along with Reigns as his opponent; however, this time around, it would be HHH losing the World Championship, as Roman Reigns was declared the victor and new champ.
