Wrestling fans were pleasantly surprised by how short-and-sweet Money in the Bank was, and per the latest WWE Rumors, short Pay Per Views could be the trend in the “crowdless era”.

WWE Money in the Bank 2020 exceeded expectations and proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable Pay Per View from start to finish. Both cinematic ladder matches were excellent, and the encounters between the women and men, such as Asuka kicking down the murderous King Corbin, were tremendous. Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt was better than it had any right being, and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre was a masterpiece.

But on top of the entertainment and wonderful story-telling prior to the main event ladder matches, WWE fans were also pleased with how short the Pay Per View was. Most fans are prepared to spend upwards of five hours watching a PPV in the modern era, but WWE has answered their body’s pleas for more sleep.

In fact, Money in the Bank ran for fewer than two-and-a-half hours – not including the one-hour pre-show from 6 p.m. ET to 7 p.m. ET – finishing up before 9:30 p.m. ET.

According to a report from WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, the short run-time was, of course, by design from the orders of Vince McMahon. But Davis also reports that we can expect to see similarly short Pay Per Views going forward.

Backlash, as WWE announced on Sunday night during Money in the Bank, is the next PPV on the calendar. It will take place on June 14 on the WWE Network, and, per Davis’ report, we can also expect it to run short, perhaps under three hours as with MITB.

Davis reports that Vince McMahon wants to keep PPVs short until fans are in arenas. It will be interesting to see if that ends up extending to SummerSlam, which will take place after Backlash in June and Extreme Rules in July.

SummerSlam is one of the most loaded-up cards of the year. Could WWE even experiment with two nights of SummerSlam if they want to keep run times short like with WrestleMania when there are no fans?
