WWE: 5 Heel and Face Turns We Should Expect in 2020
By Mark Justice
4.) Liv Morgan: Turn Heel
When Liv Morgan lost to Charlotte Flair on the Jul. 16, 2019 episode of SmackDown Live, she promised she would ‘be real’ once she returns to the ring. She felt that she was perpetually succumbing to orders of privileged queens, like Charlotte Flair, and manipulative leaders, like Ruby Riott, and not allowing her true self to shine through.
She had let the WWE Universe know that she is going through multifaceted phases in her young life while learning her lessons along the way. From a booking standpoint, this was a key repackaging phase for Liv Morgan as she looked to break away from the Riott Squad and become a singles star who could be pushed for a run with the Raw Women’s Championship.
Once she was repackaged and returned to the WWE, interrupting a wedding between Bobby Lashley and Lana was not exactly what the WWE fans had in mind for Morgan. Albeit a weak start to a long awaited re-debut for Morgan, she shined in her matches against Natalya, Asuka, Ruby Riott, and most importantly Charlotte Flair.
On last week’s Raw, she lost to Charlotte Flair again and it may seem that she is back to square one. However, that loss could lead to a heel turn for Liv Morgan. She was able to overcome her manipulative leader, Ruby Riott, but she still failed to overcome the privileged queen who talked very condescendingly to her in the past.
As Morgan said, she did not grow up privileged. She has a mom with an unrecognizable job and resume but a determined persona.
A heel turn could show how fed up she is with losing to privileged superstars like Charlotte Flair and show the ‘real’ side the WWE Universe was looking for all along by converting her heel turn into positive momentum with a determined victory over the Queen and a future championship opportunity in 2020.
