WWE: AJ Styles moving to SmackDown is the best thing for him
Here’s what AJ Styles’ move to WWE SmackDown means.
With AJ Styles returning to the blue brand, moving back to SmackDown may have been the best thing for him as a top heel in WWE. Not only for him as a performer, but for the SmackDown brand as a whole.
Last Friday on SmackDown, we learned that AJ Styles would be moving to the blue brand as an active member of the roster. As he went on to defeat former rival Shinsuke Nakamura in a first-round tournament match, it seems WWE may have big plans in place for Styles’ involvement on SmackDown.
As SmackDown as of late has lacked credible main-event stars, Styles moving there serves a positive note for potential matchups and feuds. One of the main focal points on why Styles’ move to SmackDown is a positive decision is the lack of credible heels. Specifically, there aren’t enough credible heels on the SmackDown roster to challenge top stars on that very brand like Braun Strowman and Jeff Hardy. Such SmackDown heel performers as Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin are talented but aren’t built as credible threats.
Styles is one of the few recent performers that was brought in and became a success as a main-event. It’s something that a lot of wrestlers from this current generation haven’t been able to do. Because of this, Styles being involved on SmackDown as a top heel can contribute a whole lot if booked properly.
With WWE putting more of an emphasis on SmackDown since its arrival on FOX, Styles becoming the top figure is a good move in a sense where viewers may garner more interest. With Roman Reigns out of action and the blue brand suffering from a lack of credible villains, Styles making the jump to SmackDown makes a whole lot of sense.
At the current state of Style’s WWE career, he should be protected in terms of being believable as a main-event threat. This is why if an upcoming babyface were to defeat him in a high profile match, it would mean a whole lot for that very performer.
Will Styles make a difference on SmackDown in a positive light or will WWE “drop the ball” on his potential value?
