WWE: 5 possible Intercontinental Title challengers for AJ Styles

AJ Styles is the new WWE Intercontinental Champion. Here are five possible challengers he could defends against for his reign.

Four years into his run with the WWE, it is still impressive to see the heights that AJ Styles has climbed to reach. An individual, who was once deemed not the right fit for the organization, has quickly become one of its biggest attractions since his 2016 arrival. He topped off that run with another title when, when he picked up the Intercontinental title on SmackDown.

His victory over Daniel Bryan was one of the best matches that the WWE has presented to fans in a very long time. There is no telling what would be next for his career, but there are a list of challengers that would be great foils for this stage.

Bryan should be considered an immediate name for this slot, but this list looks at five other competitors that would benefit from a prolonged angle with the “Phenomenal One.”

Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle is set to make his SmackDown debut on Friday’s edition of the show. Riddle is an individual who continues to defy the odds in his own way. His professional career has been such a success in ways that were never expected when he initially left the mixed martial arts industry. There is something about Riddle that has allowed him to win over nearly any crowd, regardless of the promotion. His time spent in NXT has been entertaining in every fashion. It is amazing to think that they never put the NXT championship around his waist, but he never needed it to be one of the biggest stars in the black and yellow brand.

Riddle and Styles would have an exceptional program. It may be a bit early to make this happen as neither Styles nor Riddle need to take any losses right now. But if anyone should be the individual to take the belt off his waist, that person should be Riddle. Give Styles a lengthy run with the belt to give it the shine that comes with his legacy, then turn his attention to Riddle. Riddle can easily become a top name in WWE programming and one way to get him there is to allow him and Styles to give us the types of performances we know they can.
