WWE SmackDown Predictions: Bayley revisits an old rival
By Mark Justice
1.) Matt Riddle and The New Day vs. King Corbin and Artist Collective [6-Man Tag Match]
On last week’s SmackDown, Matt Riddle and The New Day delivered their signature maneuvers to King Corbin after Corbin lost to Jeff Hardy in the main event. These post-match attacks were penalties for Corbin’s rash comments about The Undertaker, whose long-awaited retirement was supposed to be recognized and acclaimed.
On this week’s SmackDown, as a follow up from last week, expect Matt Riddle and The New Day to battle in a 6-man tag team main event match against Riddle’s main rival, King Corbin, and The New Day’s main rivals, Artist Collective. For a short period of time, King Corbin was in cahoots with Artist Collective in the build to WWE MITB 2020, so this would be an interesting reunion of sorts.
The lazy booking decision would be to book Artist Collective in a match against Lucha House Party just because Lucha House Party won an eight-man tag team match alongside The New Day against Dirt Sheet and Artist Collective on last week’s SmackDown.
However, that would be unnecessary since Cesaro and Nakamura already earned a title shot against The New Day after pinning them on the go-home show to WWE Backlash 2020 and are thereby their number one contenders and main rivals.
Despite Corbin’s qualms with his current feud with Riddle, he will take a loss if this match occurs. Albeit typical Teddy-Long style booking, it is effective in building up Riddle as a future babyface star on the blue brand while continuing The New Day’s momentum as formidable SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
Prediction: Matt Riddle and The New Day
