WrestleMania 31: Roman Reigns

Going into WrestleMania 31, fans assumed that Brock Lesnar was going to drop the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns. It had become common knowledge that Lesnar’s contract was set to expire around that time, and so the coronation of the Big Dog seemed like a certainty. That all changed during an ESPN interview shortly before WrestleMania, when the Beast declared that he had chosen to re-sign with WWE. His status in the company no longer in doubt, Brock Lesnar entered the Show of Shows intent on leaving WrestleMania 31 as champion.

From the opening bell, Lesnar delivered a physical beatdown to Roman Reigns that was unlike any other WrestleMania main event. The Big Dog was absolutely destroyed, as an unending series of suplexes and F-5s left him a broken heap of humanity. At one point in the contest, Lesnar took time to talk trash to his opponent, uttering the line “Suplex City b*itch”. That line has since earned the Beast a fortune in merchandise sales, and it all stemmed from this legendary beatdown.

Somehow, Reigns continued to kick out throughout the contest, but both the fans in attendance and those watching at home could tell the match was wearing on him. Following a stiff bump into the ring post, a bloodied Lesnar received a beatdown of his own from the Big Dog. The match eventually reached a stalemate, giving Seth Rollins the opportunity to rush down to the ring and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Moments later, the Architect pinned Roman Reigns to win his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
