WWE: Shawn Michaels believes two NXT stars have more talent than he did
Shawn Michaels put over two WWE NXT stars as strong as he possibly could in an interview.
Triple H is the father of WWE NXT, so to speak, but he has a new right-hand man in Shawn Michaels, who has been his close friend since their wrestling days as part of the faction D-Generation X.
Michaels has played a key role in helping put together matches and shows, while giving pointers to the next generation of stars in WWE. Two of the brand’s biggest stars over the past couple of years are Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano, who have held the NXT Championship with class and have also put together epic matches against each other.
The Heartbreak Kid was unsurprisingly full of praise for both Black and Gold brand stars, but the extent to which he praised Gargano and Cole was truly striking.
On an appearance with WWE Español’s El Brunch de WWE, Michaels stated that he thinks both Cole and Gargano are more talented AND more charismatic than he was.
Here’s the quote from WrestlingInc.com’s Marc Middleton:
"“I think Adam Cole has aspects of that, I think Johnny does as well. Once again, I probably… it’s nothing new, but very similar qualities, I think both Adam and Johnny have similar qualities in their style, and the way they work, that I did.“I just think they’re both more talented than I was, and more charismatic in some respects, as well.”"
It’s massive praise indeed from Michaels, but it’s well-earned by Cole and Gargano. As a neutral party, it’s hard to say that Gargano and Cole have Michaels’ charisma, but Gargano, based on the incredible matches he’s had with pretty much everyone on the NXT roster, may actually be the better in-ring wrestler than HBK.

On to Cole, he recently finished up his NXT Title reign, which was a record-breaking reign for the brand and one of the most memorable title reigns in all of WWE over the past several years. He did an incredible job of making an already-prestigious title feel that much more important, making Keith Lee’s double-champion crowning at NXT Great American Bash feel that much bigger. Cole should be onto big things on the main roster, if that’s what he – and WWE – want next.
