WWE SummerSlam 2020: Could there be a Winner-Take-All match?

Asuka has title opportunities against Sasha Banks and Bayley at WWE SummerSlam 2020, but what if she faces both at the same time?

Heading into WWE SummerSlam 2020, WWE have been telling a tremendous story with their three MVP candidates of 2020. Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Asuka have been lighting it up each and every week with their character work and wrestling, and their most heated segments have occurred on Raw, including Bayley writing Kairi Sane off television to help Sasha claim the Raw Women’s Title.

On this past episode of Raw, Asuka earned a title shot against Sasha by defeating Bayley yet again. But then, in a twist, she showed up on Friday Night SmackDown in the Triple Brand Battle Royal, last eliminating potential future Raw Women’s Title rival Shayna Baszler to earn a SmackDown Women’s Title opportunity against Bayley.

So now The Empress of Tomorrow (or Yesterday, if you are a BaySha fan), is set to pull double-duty at WWE SummerSlam 2020 with two world title matches. And she’s more than capable of doing so, judging by the incredible quality of her recent bouts with both Bayley and Sasha.

But the rather interesting booking decision from WWE has raised the question of a possible Winner-Take-All match at SummerSlam so that Asuka doesn’t pull double-duty but both titles are still defended on the Pay Per View.

Could Sasha Banks and Bayley lose both titles at WWE SummerSlam 2020?

It’s an interesting scenario, because it could be the exact kind of match that leads to Sasha and Bayley losing their singles titles. One week later, they will defend the Women’s Tag Titles at Payback, likely against the new babyface team of Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan. Riott and Morgan could very well be the team to take the tag titles off BaySha.

Becky Lynch has held the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships before, but her reign with both was brief. Bayley ended up having her first reign with the SmackDown Title, cashing in on Charlotte Flair during Money in the Bank right after The Queen defeated Becky. So maybe this is the way she truly loses the SmackDown Women’s Title.

There are three issues here to think about with a Winner-Take-All match. Firstly, if Asuka wins, how long would she hold both titles? Would it end up being a Keith Lee situation where she relinquishes one of them? Secondly, which title would Sasha and Bayley feud over if they lose both? And thirdly, is it even possible for Asuka to lose this match, given all that the heels have done to her?

These three questions make me feel like a Winner-Take-All match isn’t happening, but with all the twists and turns in this storyline and with SummerSlam carrying the “You’ll Never See It Coming” tagline, you really can’t be too sure. A Winner-Take-All match is a way for WWE to change the stakes and get people talking, both before the Pay Per View and well after it.
