Drew McIntyre (c) vs Randy Orton for the WWE Championship

While Wyatt vs Strowman has made a late dash to be the main event of WWE SummerSlam 2020, the championship run of Drew McIntyre and overall “I’m the best in the world now” of Randy Orton make the WWE championship match a shoe-in for the top spot.

Drew McIntyre has worked through half of the Raw locker room and he’s done so at pace. Randy Orton meanwhile has been lurking, stalking, ready to make his move as he delivered the most high profile matches on every card. Orton’s strength right now is that he’s overnight become the best promo in the company and he’s being kept out of the ring. His character right now is enthralling and Orton is a legitimate threat to McIntyre’s crown.

McIntyre however is no pushover. The big Scot doesn’t take anything lying down and Orton has picked a fight with someone who has everything to prove. This is genuinely a very difficult one to call because, for once, I would be extremely happy if either man wins.

Ric Flair could still play a part. That needs saying even though I wish it didn’t. Either man could also win clean, with the respect between both men meaning that everyone would be more than happy to do the favor this time.

It almost comes down to the toss of a coin but I will say, without confidence, that I think Drew McIntyre will remain the WWE champion.

But I see Ric Flair coming, WWE. Don’t try it.
