Kickoff Match: Big E vs. Sheamus

Getting things started with the WWE Payback Kickoff Show, we could see the next chapter between Big E and Sheamus from SmackDown. These two have been going at each other in recent weeks, at times actually clashing on the actions the SmackDown roster should take in response to RETRIBUTION.

While a match between the two last Friday night on SmackDown did ultimately see Big E take the win, Sheamus hasn’t been known to let one loss get in his way. This rivalry is likely to continue, and WWE Payback is the perfect place to cap it off and ultimately give Big E another strong victory as he pushes forward as a singles competitor.

Prediction: Big E def. Sheamus

United States Championship Match: Apollo Crews (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

Apollo Crews has been dealing with The Hurt Business for what seems like an eternity, but he may have finally moved on from taking on the veteran MVP. After defeating MVP once again at SummerSlam, Crews must now change his attention to “The Almighty” Bobby Lashley for WWE Payback.

This match was confirmed on WWE Raw during an unsurprisingly unexciting Arm Wrestling Match between these two, but either way it has set things up for this Sunday. Unfortunately, I think Apollo’s luck is going to run out on Sunday, as Bobby Lashley will take the win and become the new United States Champion for the first time since May of 2006.

Prediction: Bobby Lashley is the new United States champion

Kevin Owens vs. Aleister Black

While this match hasn’t been confirmed, it seems pretty logical based on what happened during WWE Raw. For the first time in weeks, we got to see Aleister Black as he appeared as a guest on The Kevin Owens Show. Black was wearing a bandage over one eye, apparently still feeling the effects of an attack by Seth Rollins some weeks ago.

That damage momentarily seemed to affect him as Aleister Black stumbled to a knee, but when Kevin Owens tried to check on him he received a spinning back elbow to the fact followed by a swift Black Mass. It’s clear Aleister Black has made his much-awaited heel turn, and a win over Kevin Owens at WWE Payback is just the thing to put him on the right path from here.

Prediction: Aleister Black def. Kevin Owens
