WWE seem to finally be moving forward with the Sasha Banks and Bayley breakup on SmackDown.

After Sasha Banks lost the Raw Women’s Championship to Asuka at SummerSlam with no help from Bayley and then lost another title match on the following episode of Raw to the Empress of Tomorrow, she and Bayley addressed the audience on WWE SmackDown.

And it was incredible.

Banks came out with Rock-inspired gear and her acting was excellent, as always. She sold being upset with Bayley, and at first, she was trying to hide her anger with her “best friend”. But after Bayley started throwing her under the bus, saying that she never should have pushed for Sasha to defend the title against Asuka because of her poor record defending the Raw Women’s Title, Sasha didn’t hide her anger.

The Women’s Tag Team Champions took shots at each other in subtle ways, both before and after Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax insulted them from the titantron. Sasha and Bayley will face Nia and Shayna at Payback amidst their own internal friction after Banks’ Raw Women’s Title losses.

Sasha Banks, Bayley ready for another rivalry for the ages

It was entertaining listening to the little slips of tongue. For example, Sasha told Nia and Shayna that she would be walking out with “MY” tag team championship. My. Not “our”. My.

Again, sublime acting and storytelling from Bayley and Banks. After months of waiting and wondering if it would or would not happen, WWE fans can tell that the company is now serious about this big break-up angle happening this Fall.

Fans are now expecting this to happen any moment now, perhaps even on Sunday at Payback in the Women’s Tag Title match. The Boss and The Role Model have had an incredible run together as tag champions, double champions, and top stars on Raw and SmackDown, but it’s now time for them to have a rivalry for the ages on Friday nights. We’re moving forward.
