Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax won the Women’s Tag Titles at WWE Payback 2020 in memorable fashion.
Although Sasha Banks and Bayley clearly weren’t on the same page on the most recent episode of SmackDown after Banks lost her WWE Raw Women’s Championship, there was still some hope that they would be able to retain the Women’s Tag Titles at Payback. After all, their opponents, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, weren’t exactly on the same page either.
Baszler and Jax formed an impromptu tag team on Monday Night Raw after feuding, but on Sunday at Payback, they showed great chemistry.
And to be fair, so did Sasha and Bayley. They were their usual, great selves together without any hitches, and it looked like they had the match won when Sasha hit a Frog Splash. But Nia kicked out, discouraging BaySha as the champions fell apart.
In the end, Baszler and Jax won the Women’s Tag Titles, and they did so via Baszler. She was a standout throughout the match, producing particularly brilliant sequences with top seller Sasha, and saved her best for the finish.
Shayna Baszler used Sasha Banks’ arm to tap out Bayley
Look at that right there. Shayna won this match for her tag team by putting Bayley and Banks into a double submission.
First, she tried to put Bayley in the Kirifuda Clutch, but Sasha fought her off. Then, she got Sasha in the Muta submission. Bayley tried to help, but Baszler grabbed her in the Kirifuda Clutch while still maintaining her hold on The Blueprint.
And as if that wasn’t awesome enough, Baszler drove it home by using Sasha’s arm to choke out Bayley, to the point where Bayley had to tap. Banks did everything she could to help her team stay in the match, as she wanted to punch Baszler into breaking the hold on Bayley. Yet the resourceful Queen of Spades used Sasha’s own arm against her.
And now, we continue to move forward with the Bayley and Banks program, while Shayna and Nia likely turn to face Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan now that they’ve secured the Women’s Tag Titles.
