WWE Payback ended with Roman Reigns doing as he said, wrecking everyone and leaving as Universal Champion. Who should be in line to challenge him?

The tagline for WWE SummerSlam was “you’ll never see it coming,” and no one predicted the night would end with Roman Reigns making his shocking return and laying out both “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman with spears. WWE Payback wasn’t much different, as Wyatt and Strowman tore into each other only for Reigns to pick up the pieces and hit Strowman with a Spear before pinning him to become the new Universal Champion.

“The Big Dog” is back on top, and this time he seems content to tear through the competition with ease while Paul Heyman is by his side. While we might see “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt go after Roman Reigns, the unpredictability of that character and potentially still having issues with Braun Strowman could delay that rivalry until a bigger stage can contain it.

On top of that, there are two big wildcards at play as WWE has been reportedly shifting plans in recent months for an eventual WWE Draft (Per Fightful Select, H/T Sportskeeda). Now that they’ve made the change to the WWE ThunderDome and some superstars who took time off, such as Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, are back in the mix, they might just pull the trigger on the draft soon.

There’s also the question of NXT. We just saw Keith Lee make the move to WWE Raw from NXT, and there’s always a possibility that at any moment someone else could join him by moving from that brand to WWE Raw or SmackDown. With those possibilities in mind, we look at five superstars who could have marquee title feuds with Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Otis

The most obvious choice, aside from “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, would be the man who still holds the Money in the Bank contract to be cashed in for a shot at the Universal Championship (or WWE Championship). Assuming Otis doesn’t get moved to WWE Raw during a potential WWE Draft, he now has a new champion to turn his focus to.

Seeing the wholesome and innocent Otis trying to prove himself as a main event star against the most ruthless and vicious Roman Reigns we have ever seen is a recipe for success, and even a loss could help make Otis into a legitimate main event star.
