WWE Payback 2020 Results, Highlights, Grades: Roman Reigns on top again

WWE Payback 2020 took place on August 30, 2020, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

WWE Payback 2020 is all about retribution. RETRIBUTION? Does that refer to that chaotic faction who reminds everyone of the Nexus? Maybe, but there’s only one way to find out. With that being said, it’s now time to recap what happened at this PPV, starting with the kickoff match between Riott Squad and IIconics.

Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan vs. IIconics [Tag Match]

Result: Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan (via pinfall)

Rating: 3.5/5.0 Stars

Grade: B-, Liv for the Riott! This match was really good for the kickoff show. The in-ring psychology especially was played off quite well, especially when teasing the breakup of Riott and Morgan. 

IIconics took early control of Ruby Riott in the early stages of the match. Kay delivered her patented Shades of Kay to Ruby. Royce neutralized Ruby’s attacks to prevent the tag to Morgan, while Kay played psychological games to make Liv think that Ruby attacked her. Morgan teased leaving Ruby high and dry for Ruby’s ‘iconic’ betrayal. This was one of the best moments of the matches that made one doubt if Ruby and Morgan would pick up the win.

However, IIconics’ attempt to draw them apart didn’t work. Morgan got the hot tag and rallied with fiery punches and Enziguiris. She delivered a Double Stomp to Royce and tagged in Ruby. IIconics delivered the IIconic Duo to Riott, but Morgan broke up the pin. Morgan delivered the Flatliner to Royce and a Double Knee Code Breaker to Kay as Riott capitalized with the Riott Kick for the pinfall and the victory.
