Roman Reigns appears to be a heel on WWE SmackDown.

Roman Reigns returned at WWE SummerSlam and turned heel by taking out the champion and the challenger in a double attack. His alliance with The Evil Genius Paul Heyman on the following episode of SmackDown confirmed that this heel turn is going to last longer.

Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted, via WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, that The Big Dog wanted this heel turn for a long time, as did the WWE Universe. He didn’t get it after WrestleMania 36 as the Grand Slam Champion was out of WWE programming for a long time.

WWE turned him heel to add another dimension to his character, and this way it will be easier for the company to portray him as a top heel on the blue brand until a credible superstar shows up.

The former Shield member is the poster boy for the company, and this change is a welcome one because the superstar wanted it as did the WWE Universe.

A heel Roman Reigns seems to be benefitting WWE greatly

A change of this sort impacts the storylines and careers of superstars hugely. We have seen superstars turn credible due to recent changes, and this may be the first step towards adding more value to his persona.

Paul Heyman is the best manager in the business, and his addition to The Big Dog is great because WWE recently took down Brock Lesnar’s merchandise from the official shop. Reports have been doing rounds that The Beast Incarnate is a free agent or may appear on WWE programming on a need basis.

There is nothing more cherishable than a superstar that is your biggest star and is loved by the fans for portraying his character. While it may initiate negative heat for Roman Reigns right now, as long as it helps WWE get its ratings in order, it wouldn’t be a bad idea because this is ‘Best For Business.’
