WWE Clash of Champions 2020: Full confirmed card and winner predictions
Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
SummerSlam 2020 came with the tagline “You’ll Never See It Coming,” and that line became a reality when Roman Reigns made a shocking return following the night’s main event. One week later, Reigns dominated a Triple Threat Match with Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and former champion Braun Strowman to emerge as the new Universal Champion.
The confidence and dominance of Roman Reigns have been more prevalent than ever in recent weeks, and we’re in an intriguing new chapter as he’s set to defend against his own cousin, Jey Uso. This is a rare singles championship opportunity for Jey Uso, but I’d be shocked to see him pull off the upset. Roman Reigns will simply show up and win.
Prediction: Roman Reigns is still the Universal Champion
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bayley (c) vs. Nikki Cross
By the time we get to Clash of Champions, Bayley will enter the night having held the SmackDown Women’s Championship for over 350 days. She finds herself up against a familiar opponent, as Nikki Cross unsuccessfully challenged for the title during The Horror Show at Extreme Rules and then again just days later on the following episode of SmackDown.
A lot has changed for Bayley and Cross since then, whether it’s Bayley’s vicious assaults on her former best friend Sasha Banks or Nikki’s tag team partner Alexa Bliss being affected by her interactions with The Fiend. As great as Bayley’s reign has been, the division needs a change of pace, and Banks will seemingly be out for some time, so Cross could take a win this Sunday only for the title to be back on Bayley in a few months when Banks is ready to return.
Prediction: Nikki Cross is the new SmackDown Women’s Champion
WWE Championship Ambulance Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton
In what will likely be the main event of the evening, Drew McIntyre is set to defend the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. The issues between these two go back to SummerSlam 2020, where McIntyre definitively defeated Orton after 20 minutes of back and forth action.
We’ve seen both McIntyre and Orton injure themselves in recent weeks, and the possibility of this match even happening has been brought into question, but the interaction between them this Monday on WWE Raw seems to confirm they’re both cleared for action.
We can expect a brutal contest here, as they vie to incapacitate their opponent long enough to put them in an ambulance and close the doors, but we may be about to see the end of a title reign that began when Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar back at WrestleMania 36 as Randy Orton captures his 14th World Championship.
Prediction: Randy Orton is the new WWE Champion
