WWE: How Roman Reigns’ storyline paves for a match with The Rock
By Amit Shukla
Will WWE WrestleMania 37 bring us Roman Reigns vs. The Rock?
Roman Reigns has updated his title in WWE from The Big Dog to The Tribal Chief, and we saw how he inflicted pain on his cousin Jey Uso during the main event of Clash of Champions. The return of the former Shield member has the fans involved as he returned in the way they wanted for a long time. The only difference is that he wants to be The Chief.
If you remember The Rock’s maternal grandfather Peter Maivia is The High Chief and is a member of the Anoa’i family. Roman Reigns wants to take Mr Maivia’s place as The Tribal Chief because if you look through the Anoa’i family history, you would be aware that The Rock and Roman Reigns are cousins. It makes the story interesting that Roman Reigns would want to take on a title that belongs to The Rock and his family.
Roman Reigns decimated his cousin Jey Uso to a level that Jimmy Uso had to throw a white towel in the ring to stop the match. The last time it happened was at Survivor Series 1994 when Owen Hart convinced his parents to throw the towel in the ring to save his brother Bret Hart. It did make Jimmy call the Universal Champion as The Chief, but his brother is not ready to do so.
Roman Reigns is currently feuding with cousin Jey Uso on WWE SmackDown
This week on SmackDown we saw how the champion granted his brother a title match at Hell In A Cell which led to one half of the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion call out his cousin by using his real name ‘Joe.’ This time around, it looks like the fight is going to get more personal and ugly. Hell In A Cell is a structure where no outside interference is allowed, and The Tribal Chief can make full use of this opportunity to get Jey Uso – and his own character – even more over.
It would be nice to see if Jimmy also takes part in this story and gets injured by the champion before they return at the Royal Rumble and The Rock returns to confront The Big Dog about his claim as The Tribal Chief. While pen has not touched paper as of this writing and there are speculations that his Hollywood commitments may not allow him to be a part of this storyline, but ‘Never Say Never.’
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is a match that fans wanted this year, but due to the on-going pandemic, it never took place. If the two meet at The Grandest Stage of them All, and people are in attendance, then it will be an Electrifying experience. It in front of the Millions and Millions of WWE Universe members will leave them with excitement and The Rock as The New Chief.
