Impact Wrestling signs a current champion to a long-term contract
By Sam Gladen
The contract news keeps coming and won’t stop coming from Impact Wrestling ahead of their Bound For Glory Pay Per View.
Impact Wrestling certainly isn’t taking the pandemic lying down. With so much talent jumping around right now from AEW and WWE. Impact seems intent to lock down the ones who brought them to the dance.
Initially reported by PWInsider.com, current X-Division Champion Rohit Raju has signed a long term contract with the company. Raju, a long time member of the Desi Hit Squad, has been a huge asset for the company in the pandemic era.
He stepped up in a big way when a lot of talent was not able to travel and pulled himself out of the jobber status that he seemed saddled with by the company. Feuding with new signing Chris Bey and aligning himself momentarily with WWE alumni TJP before turning on him and winning the X Division title at this year’s Slammiversary event.
This report comes just days after it was announced by Impact wrestling that current Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo had also signed a long term deal.
Rohit Raju will defend the X-Division Title at Impact Wrestling’s Bound for Glory 2020 Pay Per View
Rohit spoke to PWInsider about his new contract and where his career is taking him,
"“Well obviously my contract was coming up, and the main thing for me is that I just finally started to break ground at Impact. I know I was really the low man on the totem pole for years, nothing seemed like it was going to be happening for me and finally, the ball came into my court and I decided to run with it, and I think it’s been pretty good so far.”"
Rohit defends his X- Division title tonight at Bound For Glory on Pay Per View in a scramble match against Jordynne Grace, TJP, Chris Bey, Willie Mack, and Trey Miguel. The match was set after Rohit was pinned on Impact on AXS tv by Jordynne Grace during his “Beat Rohit” challenge.
Rohit rolled out of the ring quickly though saying that the challenge was never for the X Division Title. This led Scott D’Amore to set the fight for Bound For Glory against all of his previous challengers.
