WWE Raw: What’s next for Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross after the attack?
Nikki Cross has been trying to help her former best friend on WWE Raw, but Alexa Bliss made it clear that she doesn’t need help.
Imagine being in Nikki Cross’ position on WWE Raw. Your best friend has just been brainwashed into joining forces with a former cult leader who has an alter ego, a violent children’s show, and speaks in riddles. What would you do?
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross were an awesome babyface tag team. Before they paired up, their characters couldn’t be any more opposite. Cross was the fan-favorite, eccentric babyface who would slap herself in the face to hype herself up, while Alexa was a heel’s heel who prided herself on having the audience – and, really, the world – in the palm of her hands.
They meshed into a memorable and successful tag team that held the Women’s Tag Title twice.
And then Alexa joined the Fiend.
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment Bliss joined Bray Wyatt. There were signs after her involvement in Wyatt’s Universal Title feud with her former tag team partner, Braun Strowman. She started braiding her hair like the Fiend, which worried Cross. And then it started to become clear that she had been brainwashed and transformed by the Fiend.
Still, Cross never gave up, even when Bliss started helping “Him” and making appearances on the Firefly Funhouse. She showed concern and did whatever she could to help. But Bliss quite literally told her that she chose the Fiend over Cross.
Yet she never got violent with Nikki. That is, until yesterday. On last night’s episode of WWE Raw, Cross came onto the ramp to talk Bliss out of working with the Fiend, and she received an absolutely vicious beatdown for her trouble.
Now, I’m intrigued to see what’s next. We’ve been waiting for the next step in the Cross and Bliss story for quite some time, because once they stopped tagging together and there were hints Bliss was joining Wyatt, we had a feeling there would be a major rivalry between the two stars. Like, they couldn’t just go their separate ways after all that had happened, right?
But I also wonder if Cross could join Bliss. She doesn’t necessarily need to still be with Bliss and can do plenty on her own in the Raw Women’s Division, but Cross could also excel as a kind of babyface/tweener character like Bliss and Wyatt in this environment. It may be a case of too many people, so it’s risky to go in that direction. But it may be a risk worth taking.
It looks like we’re getting the feud, though, based on the way Bliss attacked Cross. That was brutal, and it needs to have a follow-up after Survivor Series. Cross hasn’t done anything on television besides interact with Bliss, so you know there’s going to be a story here. It’s anyone’s guess as to where we end up, though, and the uncertainty around Cross’ future direction should have viewers excited.
