WWE: 5 stories that must be told before WrestleMania 37
Daniel Bryan takes the IC Title to new heights
I love the work Sami Zayn has done as Intercontinental Champion, because when WWE allow him, Zayn is one of the most compelling characters and best promos in the company. And as we saw in that scary-good ladder match at Clash of Champions, Zayn is capable of tearing the house down with the best of them. Of course, that doesn’t really mesh with his heel character.
The IC Title needs to be in the best hands possible, and it needs to be in the hands of a wrestler who wants to be a workhorse and whose character fits the title perfectly. So who better than Bryan, who has specifically stated that this will be his last run in the company?
Bryan can make the Intercontinental Title one of the most valuable championships in wrestling again. It hasn’t felt must-see since, well, The Miz held it in 2016, and Bryan had a role to play in the title’s value despite not being cleared to wrestle at the time.
We’ve seen exactly what Bryan can do with a championship, as his work as WWE Champion was simply exemplary. I think as a babyface fighting champion with the IC Title, his work could be even better, albeit in a much different way.
The IC Title has been begging for technical masterclasses from Bryan each week, and there’s so much talent on the SmackDwon roster just waiting to have a match with him. Aleister Black? Chad Gable? Buddy Murphy? Sign us up!
