Women’s Five-on-Five Elimination Match

Result: Lana is the sole survivor, Team Raw wins

Grade: C-, I thought this match was not booked well by WWE, but the individual performances were excellent. Lana being sole survivor was a common prediction, though this didn’t necessarily make her look good. I am glad, however, that we got great moments for the Riott Squad, the tag champs, and, best of all, Bianca. I’m sure Bayley isn’t hurt by this, but her early elimination was a curious decision. It was likely to help the young stars on Team SmackDown, but it was still strange nonetheless.

Vince McMahon’s curious booking continued with this five-on-five match, though, thankfully, we did not have to suffer through a clean sweep.

The first big shock of the match was Bayley being eliminated first by Peyton Royce. I would have never guessed that the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion would go first, least of all to Royce. Hopefully that is a good sign for Royce on Raw despite her makeshift tag team with Lacey Evans, though Royce herself was then the next to go via the BOAT.

I thought there were two clear highlights of the match. The first was Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. The Queen of Spades eliminated Riott via the Kirifuda Clutch, but only because Nia distracted the referee on the outside so that Riott’s clever pinfall did not count. She was then out unconscious, so Shayna pinned her. Liv had an AWESOME, vengeful flurry that included her eliminating Lacey Evans, but she, too, fell to the Women’s Tag Team Champions.

But the bigger highlight was Bianca Belair. She single-handedly fought off Shayna and Nia. She got Shayna DQ’d by showing incredible heart in the Kirifuda Clutch, which was the same move that cost her multiple title matches in NXT. And then she eliminated Nia on the outside, but she also got herself counted out.

So guess who was the sole survivor?

Yes, it was Lana. And if you are wondering why I did not mention Lana to this point, it is because she did nothing after briefly tagging in. She was yelled at to stand on the steps for the duration of the match by her heel teammates. And she listened, which paid off with a win.

Make no mistake, though, the star of the match was Bianca, followed secondly by Liv. And the main story to watch is the Women’s Tag Title scene, because Liv and Ruby have a case for another shot at those titles.
