Who should Asuka face at the upcoming WWE TLC pay-per-view?

With WWE TLC 2020 just over three weeks away, WWE will be looking to close their 2020 pay-per-view season with a bang.  One of the strongest performers over the past year has undoubtedly been Asuka.   This week’s Raw saw Asuka team with Lana to take on the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Shayna Baszler, and Nia Jax.

Assuming Asuka isn’t involved in a tag team title match at TLC here are three possible opponents that could challenge Asuka for the Raw Women’s Title.

3. Reckoning

Since Retribution’s introduction into WWE, they have been woefully booked, and maybe none more so than Reckoning.  Speaking in the occasional promo and causing distractions had been the extent of Reckoning’s involvement until a surprise backstage attack on Dana Brooke.  A similar attack on Asuka would set up a fresh match-up for TLC and give the lone female member of Retribution a chance to make a name for herself going into 2021.

2. Peyton Royce

The surprising break up of the IIconics has left Peyton Royce aimless the past few months and a recent pairing with Lacey Evans has not helped.  It is an exercise in futility to try to find the reasons why WWE would break up the IIconics just to throw Royce into a tag team with a partner that she has no chemistry with.   Royce had a good showing at Survivor Series, culminating with a pinfall victory over former Smackdown Women’s Champion, Bayley.  For the first time as a singles competitor, Royce has some momentum.  The right move would be to give Royce the ball at TLC and see how far she can run with it.

1. Charlotte Flair

It has been five months since we have seen The Queen on WWE programming and it is just a matter of time before she resurfaces.  Once she does, she will be immediately thrust back into the title picture.   Though we have seen this match on many occasions this version may feel fresh due to Flair’s recent absence.  It would also give the card a virtually guaranteed high-quality performance and actually create some suspense going into the Royal Rumble.  Don’t be surprised if we see the Queen in the very near future.

While Charlotte Flair-Asuka would be the money match for the TLC card there is no guarantee that Flair will be ready or willing to return this month.   If that is the case, WWE would be wise to use this opportunity to start to build up a new star in Royce or Reckoning.  The more viable title contenders there are coming after Asuka, the better off WWE will be heading into WrestleMania season.
