WWE NXT: Results, Grades, and Analysis for December 9th, 2020
What were the highlights of WWE NXT this week?
On the December 9th edition of WWE NXT, rivals gain substantial advantages while others stake their claim for the gold. Raquel Gonzalez battles Ember Moon in a one-on-one rematch from War Games.
Jake Atlas Vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
Grade: C
Atlas and Scott began the match with a series of armbars, later picking up the pace in the corner. Scott frequently denied his opponent a chance of recovery with a series of high flying moves. Once back in the ring, Atlas found a way to secure a rollup and the win after some confusion.
This brief contest featured the unstoppable speed of Jake Atlas and the unwavering resilience of Isaiah Scott. With the frustrations continuing to mount for the latter, he may have to implement a change of pace to achieve the results he desires.
Grizzled Young Veterans Vs. EverRise Vs. Imperium
Grade: A
EverRise began the match by attempting to avoid the group, only for Zack Gibson to gain control with armbars. Marcel Barthel later entered the fray and gained control through takedowns. Gibson was eventually introduced and looked to isolate Barthel in the corner, although EverRise found a way to resurface through their own speedy offense.
Towards the conclusion, the GFV hit the Ticket to Mayhem to gain their second win since returning.
This was a thrilling tag team contest. EverRise dominated the speed portions, Imperium dominated the technical portions, and the GYV dominated the strength portions. Each team has a significant claim to a potential tag title shot in the near future.
Tommaso Ciampa Vs. Cameron Grimes
Grade: B
Tommaso Ciampa continues his vicious comeback against the arrogant Cameron Grimes. The former began the contest by locking Grimes in headlocks, continuing the attack on the arm. Timothy Thatcher would make his presence known at ringside to observe Ciampa, with neither opponent giving him the attention.
In the climax of the contest, Ciampa withstood a distraction and hit the Willow’s Bell for the pinfall victory.
Ciampa found himself in treacherous waters for this match, enduring the dangerous offense of Grimes and external factors in the form of Thatcher and Tyler Rust. He may be able to finally get his hands on his rival sooner rather than later.
Pete Dunne Vs. Killian Dain
Grade: A
Dain and Dunne immediately slugged on each other, with the former gaining the advantage by corner attacks. Killian continued the punishment by using the ring apron until Pete found a quick opening. Dunne gained another burst of control by targeting the arm and back of the Belfast Brawler.
Towards the conclusion, Dain assisted his tag partner Drake Maverick in warding off Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Once back in the ring, Dunne would hit a huge Bitter End for the pinfall.
Killian was out to completely decimate Dunne in this match, using huge slams and top rope moves to full effect. Dunne was no slouch in the contest as well as he dished out his own brand of punishment and received an edge from the NXT Tag Team Champions.
Ember Moon Vs. Raquel Gonzalez
Grade: A
Moon began the match by utilizing a series of mind games, only for Gonzalez to gain control with a major side slam. Ember regained the advantage by targeting the knee in a short burst. Raquel found her way back into the match with a combination of strength and speed, also resorting to hard kicks and submissions.
Towards the conclusion, Gonzalez hit a clothesline and a uranage for the win.
Raquel Gonzalez was no slouch in this contest, using all her strength to limit Ember’s speed at every turn. Moon’s intermittent bouts of momentum wouldn’t be enough to bring the match home and gain vengeance.
