Kevin Owens

Let’s start with Kevin Owens, since that would be a continuation of Roman Reigns’ current program. As expected, Owens vs. Reigns has been a huge hit, and it’s incredible thinking that their roles have essentially been reversed from Raw in late 2016 and early 2017.

What’s even more incredible is that the two had a fantastic match at the Royal Rumble 2017 with Owens as the heel Universal Champion getting help from Chris Jericho (in a shark cage, no less!) against a babyface Reigns. And so next January, we could see an even more interesting story with the never-say-die babyface Owens getting one last shot at Reigns’ Universal Title.

Reigns and Owens had a fantastic Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match earlier this month, and they have a steel cage match on the horizon. Those are two huge stipulation matches befitting such a personal feud that is about family, Owens redeeming himself from his past behaviors that mirror Reigns’ own toxicity, and the babyface making himself (in Paul Heyman’s words) something of a martyr.

But I’m confident that they can keep it going in a third match. Honestly, a steel cage match on SmackDown only increases the odds of this rivalry being a trilogy. There is more than enough material to work with here, especially with a possible Jimmy Uso return.
