Damian Priest has found some success in NXT, but the time has come for him to be sent to the main roster via a Karrion Kross beatdown.

NXT New Year’s Evil is set for January 6. One of the big matches planned for the card is Damian Priest versus Karrion Kross. Kross is making his return and the first step toward getting back to the NXT championship, while Priest has found himself in a middling position within the NXT peaking order. Kross is the easy prediction to get the win here, but this should be the last time Priest is seen on the Wednesday night brand.

Since coming to NXT, Damian Priest has been on an enjoyable run. He has reached the pinnacle of obtaining the NXT North American title, along the way being a part of some great matches. However, it seems like he is reached the highest point for him as a part of NXT. While it is not a slant on Priest’s performance as a wrestler, it does not seem like will reach the point of being the top champion or even a challenger for that belt. Priest’s resume boasts several wins, but it is the defeats that cause concern about how far he will move up the roster.

That does not bode well for Priest against Kross. Kross was fast-tracked to the title at the expense of Keith Lee, an individual who was strongly booked within NXT for an extended time. It is predictable to see him as the next challenger for the NXT championship, regardless if that person is Finn Balor or Kyle O’Reilly. To get there he will get through Priest. This match should go the same way as his contest against Tommaso Ciampa back at NXT TakeOver: In Your House. This is an opportunity to remind people of the threat that is Karrion Kross and that means that Damian Priest must take a one-sided defeat next week.

That should be the last time NXT fans see Priest before moving him up to SmackDown or Monday Night Raw. This could be done as an entrant into the Royal Rumble, coupled with a call up to either brand the following week. Priest fits perfectly into the mid-card of either show, feuding for the Intercontinental or United States titles. His time in NXT has presented him as a big personality outside the ring with the matching abilities when the bell rings. There is a space for Priest and a wealth of new names available for him once he hits either of the two main brands within WWE.

The NXT roster is bursting at the seams as established talent and new names jokey for television time. Damian Priest is an individual that has reached some success in NXT but is not one that will reach the top of the mountain on the brand. The best next steps for him is the main roster and Karrion Kross is the man to give him a one-way ticket after a beating at NXT New Year’s Evil.
