WWE: 5 dream matches for MSK, formerly known as The Rascalz
The duo formerly known as The Rascalz made their NXT debut last week as MSK in the Dusty Classic, and now the door is open for these five WWE dream matches.
There was plenty of buzz going into the first night of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic about who the mystery team of MSK would turn out to be, and the pair once known as The Rascalz made an immediate impact in their WWE NXT debut. With a win over Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas, Wes Lee (formerly Dezmond Xavier) and Nash Carter (formerly Zachary Wentz) advanced to the next round, and they’ve got some big potential opponents on the horizon.
Their next round is already decided, as Killian Dain and Drake Maverick advanced after defeating Curt Stallion and August Grey on 205 Live. The way the bracket stands now, if MSK continues to win, they could see themselves up against teams like Legado del Fantasma, Imperium, Grizzled Young Veterans, or The Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole and Roderick Strong.
First teaming together in 2015, the duo now known as Wes Lee and Nash Carter has gone up against some of the top independent tag teams on the planet over the past several years. While known as The Rascalz, the group also included Myron Reed and Trey Miguel during various periods, but the core tag team was always Lee and Carter.
While competing as Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz, they captured the PWG World Tag Team Titles in 2018 by defeating The Young Bucks and The Chosen Bros (Jeff Cobb & Matt Riddle) in a triple threat match. Despite their new home in NXT, The Rascalz are still the recognized PWG World Tag Team Champions today.
During their reign, which now spans over 1,000 days, they’ve successfully defended against Violence Unlimited (Brody King & Tyler Bateman), The Young Bucks, The Lucha Brothers, LAX (Santana & Ortiz), Best Friends, and the team of Flamita & Rey Horus. Now rebranded as MSK, what WWE dream matches are suddenly within reach for these former free agents?
The Street Profits
While they’ve had very different paths, The Street Profits and MSK have actually been in the wrestling industry for roughly the same amount of time. Teaming together since 2016, the pair of Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford quickly became a cornerstone of NXT’s tag team division.
They’re currently three-time Tag Team Champions between NXT, Raw, and SmackDown, and are only the second team (after The Revival) to become WWE Triple Crown Tag Team Champions. With equally unique styles between these two teams, we can only hope they’ll share the ring someday in WWE.
The New Day
There may be no better tag team in WWE today, or even in WWE history, than The New Day. Since the trio formed in 2014, they’ve become one of the most consistent factions WWE has ever seen on the way to being 10-time Tag Team Champions.
The New Day has delivered against just about every time WWE has put before them, and that makes it all the more exciting that we could see them face off against MSK down the road. While any version of the trio would be a dream match, the speed pairing of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston could be most fascinating considering the high-flying style MSK employs.
The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly)
While MSK could find themselves up against The Undisputed Era in this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, it’s not necessarily the version that would be most interesting to see them face. With all due respect to Roderick Strong and Adam Cole, they’re far from the core tag team of The Undisputed Era.
Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, known on the independent scene as reDRagon, have been tearing things up for years both before and after arriving in NXT. As great as Kyle O’Reilly’s presence in the NXT Championship picture is, hopefully, he can find a chance to reunite with his old partner to take on MSK down the line.
Time Splitters (Kushida and Alex Shelley)
This is probably the dreamiest of options here, and the least likely to happen. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, though. While Alex Shelley is currently part of Impact Wrestling, we actually saw him in NXT just last year to team with Kushida during the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Even if it’s just for a one-off situation like that, seeing Alex Shelley return to NXT and pair with Kushida could give us an absolute dream match against MSK. The stars would truly have to align for this to become a reality, but the same seemed true with Kushida and Shelley reunited last year, so never say never.
The Usos
Finally, we have the only team that could realistically join the conversation with The New Day as the best WWE tag team of the past decade and one of the top teams in WWE history. The Usos are six-time Tag Team Champions and secured the Slammy Award for Tag Team of the Year in 2014 and 2015, which The New Day went on to win the next two years.
While “Main Event” Jey Uso is currently branching out on his own under reigning Universal Champion Roman Reigns, there’s no doubt we’ll see the tag team back together eventually after Jimmy Uso makes his return. The Usos will hopefully be a staple of WWE for years to come, and if MSK finds their way to the main roster, this is a dream match that needs to happen.
