On this past Monday’s episode of Raw, Edge returned via satellite to announce his entry in the 2021 Royal Rumble. One year after shocking the world and making everybody cry last year, Edge is set to make another huge return. After blowing the wrestling world’s minds in 2020, it is going to be hard for him to top what he did last year.

This will be a different Royal Rumble that we’ve ever seen. It falls in line with the other “Big Four” WWE pay-per-views to take place without a crowd. While it is disappointing, at least we will have the countdown fed to us through the sound system. Woo! Yes, it is sad, but this is still the Royal Rumble that we are talking about here. Without or without a crowd, you can expect the Rumble to be entertaining.

This year potentially has the chance to be the most exciting of all-time. Without a crowd, WWE could push the envelope and create many surprises and spots to entertain everyone. Many fans have been skeptical of announcing Edge’s entry and not saving it for the show. However, I believe that this was a brilliant move for the business side of things.

Edge’s announcement means ratings. Years after his run at the top of the card, Edge is still considered as one of the best to ever step in a ring, and starting the hype for his quest to win the WWE Title again on RAW with an incredible promo was a smart move.

Despite only having a handful of matches in the past decade, Edge is still a favorite among fans to win this year. While it may sound farfetched to some people, it could very well become reality this Sunday.

In his first match back in nine years, he made it to the final three in last year’s Rumble match before being eliminated by Roman Reigns. Despite multiple defeated efforts, Edge is no stranger to winning the rumble match. He returned in the 2010 Royal Rumble at number 29 and stood tall in the end.

Unfortunately, he came up short in his earned match at WrestleMania 26 against Chris Jericho. This could be his last chance to enter the Rumble and make things right. By winning the Royal Rumble match, Edge would join the exclusive list of the few other superstars who have won two Rumble matches, including his arch-rival, Randy Orton, who just so happens to be scheduled for the big battle royal, too.

Edge tore his pectoral in his “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” encounter with Randy Orton. He will love to have the opportunity to get his hands on Orton.

Edge could get his revenge and redemption all in this one match. He could eliminate Randy Orton in the process of securing a shot at the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 37. Edge is so beloved by the fans that I can’t see fans being disappointed by this result. It would be the storybook ending for Edge to be able to return to the spot he never lost but relinquished.

However, I believe his road to WrestleMania should start in a historic fashion. In this year’s Royal Rumble By The Numbers, they only emphasized Shawn Michaels’ win from the number one spot. We all know that two men have actually won from that position — one has been marked out of the record book. However, it may be time for the company to recognize two again.

After everything Edge has been through in his career, winning from the first slot would be a fitting tribute to him, his comeback, and his career. He will have the opportunity to have altercations with many dream challengers like Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. He has already proven that he can still go the distance in any match, wrestling for nearly forty-five minutes with Randy Orton at Backlash 2020.

Let him go even longer in this match. Let Edge remind everyone exactly who the “Rated R Superstar” is and what he is capable of. If not the impossible victory from number one, many of us are still hoping this will be Edge’s year. Either way, we will hopefully be in store for a tremendous showing from him this Sunday.
