When It comes to  John Cena, you can love, you can hate him, but one thing you can’t ignore is the buzz he brings whenever he enters a ring. John Cena was the face of the WWE for 15 years and is someone that can return right back to center stage. Over the years, many wrestlers have come into WWE and tried to take Cena’s spot, but none of them was ever successful.

When Cena beat JBL for the WWE title at WrestleMania 21, we saw the birth of a legendary run that won’t ever be recreated. Cena has faced some of the top names in the WWE from Brock Lesner, Randy Orton, Edge, HHH, Shawn Michaels, and many others.

It has become cool for fans to boo and dislike Cena because of how much the WWE pushed him, but when you think about it, who else was there at the time that WWE could have pushed and could have been able to carry the load of being the top guy. When Cena was in the ring he demanded attention from everyone. He even earned the respect of people who criticized him when he wrestled wrestlers such as Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and AJ Styles.

Cena has been part of several huge matches throughout his career. WrestleMania season is just kicking off. Cena may have stated that it’s “mathematically impossible” for him to attend, weirder things have happened with top stars returning for just one moment. Here are some ideas for potential opponents if Cena steps back into the ring this year.

Drew McIntyre

When Drew McIntyre returned to the WWE in April of 2017, wrestlers’ fans all over the world knew that this time WWE would get it right and make him a massive star. McIntyre is currently on his second reign as WWE champion and has been putting together some suitable matches.  McIntyre picked up a big win over Bill Goldberg at the Royal Rumble. Giving him an opportunity to face an icon like Cena sets the stage for what would be one of the biggest matches of his career.

Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe versus John Cena comes with all of the backstory needed to fire up everyone involved. The two wrestlers began their careers together, wrestling for a company called Ultimate Pro Wrestling, which at the time was a developmental company for WWE. Rivals inside of the ring and friends outside of the ring, a program between these two would have fans at the edge of their seats. Cena would become a WWE franchise player, and  Samoa Joe would have classic wrestling matches in Ring of HONOR and TNA wrestling, which is now Impact wrestling. Now is the time for these two to face off in a WWE ring.

Adam Cole

Adam Cole has become the MVP of NXT and has proved repeatedly that he can have huge matches with just about anyone. When Cole does debut on the main roster, the WWE shouldn’t waste any time; they should have Cole go straight for the top of the food chain. A Cena vs. Cole match could be a very successful program if WWE decided to go this way and Cena is around for enough time between projects.

Karrion Kross

This is one wrestling feud that I would love to see because it would be a  career-making performance by Karrion Kross. I believe if you put Kross in front of Cena, then we would get some great wrestling matches and promos between the two. When Kross does debut on the main roster, he needs to be pushed straight into a program where he takes out a top WWE star, and Cena would be the perfect wrestler for that.

Keith Lee

Keith Lee has only been part of the WWE  main roster for a short period, but he has instantly made a strong impression, achieving critical acclaim from wrestling fans all over the world. The 340 pounders have proven that he can be a big deal when booked the right way. Keith Lee needs that big push that can help him reach that next level. By having him feud with Cena we could see a more serious side of Keith that would help make him the star we all know he can be. Keith Lee is currently one of Raw most loved wrestlers, and it is easy to see why because of the work he puts in the ring.

John Cena is one of the few names on the WWE roster that can return and immediately draw a consistent number of eyeballs. Who should he come back against is the main question and these are the types of recommendations that would get fans interested.
