Steve Cutler, former member of the Forgotten Sons, was released by the WWE

According to Fightful Select, WWE performer Steve Cutler was released by the promotion. News broke about his departure late Thursday evening. Cutler, 33, was a part of the Knights of the Lone Wolf group with Baron Corbin and Wesley Blake, as well as a part of the trio the Forgotten Sons with Jaxson Ryker.

Cutler took to social media to give a statement about his release.

“Unfortunately, today I was released,” Cutler posted. “It was shocking, to say the least. But I am excited about the future and all the possibilities in front of me. Thanks for all your continued support. 90 days…the countdown begins.”

According to the report, Cutler contracted COVID-19 in early January which caused him to have heat within the company, specifically WWE CEO, Vince McMahon. Cutler and Blake were recently reintroduced to television as part of the new group with Corbin but were removed from television shortly after. As the Forgotten Sons had their last match back in October at Money in the Bank where they were on the losing end of a Fatal-Four-way match to the New Day.

Cutler, along with Blake, were being on the receiving end of an unfortunate punishment when the Forgotten Sons were removed from television in 2020 due to offensive social media comments by Ryker. The two members attempted to distance themselves from Ryker’s comments, but all three were kept from television for much of 2020.

According to the report from Fightful, the “door was open” to an eventual return.
