WWE: Big E launches Kickstarter for series ‘Our Heroes Rock’
Big E is taking part in a campaign to support Black History education via a new animated series titled ‘Our Heroes Rock.’
While Black History Month is celebrated during February, it is American History that transcends an individual month and a single conversation. WWE Superstar, Big E along with Andreas Hale and Jonathan Davenport have launched a Kickstarter to create Our Heroes Rock, an animated series that looks at Black History through Hip-Hop and science fiction.
“I couldn’t be more excited to tell you about a project I’m working on titled ‘Our Heroes Rock,’” Big E said in a social media post to announce the campaign. “I want kids at 5, 6, and 7 years old to start learning about Ida B. Wells and Ruby Bridges.”
Big E voices the character known as E-TOUR, who acts as the tour guide for children as they are introduced to names some may recognize and others, they will not but still have an integral part in the fight for Civil Rights. The tour takes place in what is called the Hall of Heroes, akin to the Hall of Justice of the Justice League but instead of seeing Superman and Batman, the children will see names like Medgar Evers, Wells, Bridges, and many more.
“It’s a way at looking at Black History through the lenses of the future,” Davenport added. “Imagine the Smithsonian if it was designed by Tony Stark. The tour guide is voiced by someone with a big personality [Big E].”
The pilot episode will feature Grammy-nominated artist Rapsody as the narrator, telling the story of Bridges who was the first African American to integrate an all-white school in the South at the end of segregation.
“Just to know that we are creating something that can live beyond our lives and extended into our kids-kid’s lives is very enriching. We need representation and diversity,” Hale said during the video. “I didn’t know who my heroes were until I went to a library and found books on the people who inspired me.”
Our Heroes Rock is currently on Kickstarter with $12,000+ raised via 183 backers pledging their support. Visit the campaign page for more information. Big E can be seen on SmackDown Friday’s on Fox where he is the current WWE Intercontinental champion and a member of the New Day with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.
