Monday Night Raw is the perfect spot for Rhea Ripley
After a long wait, WWE has finally begun the hype for Rhea Ripley’s main roster debut as part of the Raw roster.
Rhea Ripley has taken quite the road to the WWE main roster.
Ripley has trekked a fascinating journey since signing with WWE in 2017. The Aussie first tasted the spotlight on the main stage during the 2017 Mae Young Classic, where she lost in the second round to Dakota Kai. Ripley participated in the tournament again in 2018 — this time adopting a darker, grungier persona — and made it all the way to the semifinals before bowing out to eventual winner Toni Storm.
She then became a mainstay on the NXT UK brand, becoming the first-ever NXT UK Women’s Champion. With that win, Ripley became the first female Australian champion in WWE. She held the title for 44 (recognized) days before losing it to the same woman who beat her in the MYC: Toni Storm.
Ripley then moved to the main NXT brand, where she battled the likes of Shayna Baszler (who she beat to become NXT Women’s Champion), Charlotte Flair (who she lost the NXT Women’s Title to at WrestleMania 36), Io Shirai, and Bianca Belair. Also of note, Ripley also led the NXT women’s team as the captain for their interbrand elimination triple threat tag team match at Survivor Series 2019; Ripley’s team picked up the win for the brand.
After her loss to Flair at WrestleMania 36, many believed that WWE would promote Ripley up to either SmackDown or Raw immediately, but that didn’t happen until this past week on Raw, where the company aired a video package promoting her arrival.
It is the perfect time for Ripley to join the Raw roster, as a number of fresh matches and feuds are waiting for her. Names such as Asuka, Nia Jax, Naomi, and even Reckoning (Mia Yim) could produce a great mix of matches for the newest member of the red brand. Becky Lynch would be another intriguing option, whenever she returns.
The last and only time Rhea Ripley and Becky faced off was in November 2019 on NXT. I can really picture Rhea Ripley winning the Raw Women’s Championship and then Becky Lynch’s music plays as Becky can say that “‘The Man’ has returned to claim back my championship” or something else in that manner.
It is going to be interesting to see Rhea Ripley on Raw during the road to WrestleMania 37!
