WWE: Does Miz’s Title Win Enhance WrestleMania Season?

As the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view drew to a close last Sunday, we saw the unlikeliest of images as our screens faded to black: Drew McIntyre laid motionless in the ring and standing on the middle turnbuckle holding his newly won WWE Title was none other than The Miz. All of a sudden, the road to WrestleMania 37 took a drastic turn for a number of WWE superstars.

The Miz capped off one of the strangest and most drawn-out Money In The Bank briefcase possessions with the unlikeliest of wins over a dominant champion. Now the question remains, does this title change increase or decrease excitement for the fans over the next six-plus weeks we have remaining before WrestleMania 37 is upon us?

At first glance, Miz winning the WWE Title seems, well, silly.  Don’t get me wrong, the man is money on the microphone and capable in the ring. But it can not be overlooked how he has been booked for the past months.

From racking up far more losses than wins to being laid out by any given WWE superstar on a weekly basis, even being slapped around by Bad Bunny, Miz has been much closer to a comedy act than any sort of credible title contender. This is what makes this successful cash-in so head-scratching for a lot of wrestling fans.

But upon looking a bit closer, it seems like this may have been the right call after all.

Putting the WWE Title on Miz enhances WrestleMania Season

Monday Night Raw has become a stale show that seems to just be a repeat of itself each and every Monday night. While I look forward to watching SmackDown each week, I dread sitting through the three hours of a trainwreck that is known as Raw.

However, that changed this Monday. For the first time in a while, I looked forward to Raw, and it wasn’t because I wanted to see what was next between Randy Orton and Alexa Bliss, or if RETRIBUTION would beat The New Day in their eighth match in a row against each other in some form. It was because I wanted to see what they were going to do with Miz as the champion.

As Raw concluded on Monday, I wasn’t disappointed in the show, and that was a welcome change. The show still has its flaws, to be sure, but the segments with Miz and Bobby Lashley felt fresh, and that was a nice change from the norm.

Perhaps the biggest reason that this title change was the correct move is the unpredictability it creates going forward. Will Miz manage to hang onto the title until WrestleMania? Will he drop it to someone at Fastlane? Will Lashley defeat him next Monday and carry the WWE Title into The Grandest Stage of Them All? I could see any of the following scenarios playing out.

While the WWE pay-per-views and SmackDown are pretty decent shows on a consistent basis, the best way that WWE could enhance the Road to WrestleMania was by improving the Raw show. Putting the title on Miz may just have done that.
