There is not much better than a good Champion versus Champion match. It is even more interesting when the two champions are carrying the same title.

Over the past year, two men have been known as the NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Jordan Devlin and Santos Escobar have both earned their right to be known as the head of the Cruiserweight division. When Jordan Devlin was affected by the travel bans amid the pandemic, Escobar defeated Drake Maverick to become the interim champion.

While Escobar was crowned champion in NXT, Devlin continued his reign in NXT UK. Both men were reigning and defending the same championship on parallel tracks. Amid the pandemic, many fans considered that their paths may never cross. The idea of Jordan Devlin being crowned as NXT UK’s Cruiserweight Champion had been rumored.

However, like many other fans, I was hoping for this moment to finally happen. It took a bit longer than I had expected, but I am glad that we are finally here. Jordan Devlin made his return to NXT after nearly a year. He arrived with the “true” Cruiserweight Championship in hand and made his claim as the true champion.

Jordan Devlin told Santos that he could throw his replica championship in the trash. He stated that the man that Santos was filling in for was back. Devlin is currently the longest-reigning Cruiserweight Champion in history, including WCW’s version and the original WWE version. He has every right to be known as the true Cruiserweight Champion.

Despite Devlin’s rightful claims, Santos Escobar has been a great representative of the Cruiserweight division as champion. He has become one of the biggest highlights of the yellow brand since his debut last year. First arriving as El Hijo del Fantasma, he would unmask after winning the Cruiserweight Championship and turn heel in the process.

Along with Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde, Escobar has been leading his stable, Legado del Fantasma, to the top. While many have tried to stop him, nobody has been able to beat Santos Escobar for the championship. However, the same thing was happening across the sea like a bizarre parallel universe with Jordan Devlin.

Devlin has been beating the best that NXT UK has to offer. Now that he has been cleared to return, The Irish Ace is back in NXT to beat the best that they have to offer. Luckily enough for him, Santos Escobar has weaved out all the challengers. There is no arguing the fact that Santos Escobar is the best cruiserweight in NXT.

Now, it is time for Santos and Jordan to find out who is the very best. The two parallel tracks have turned and are now speeding towards each other head-on. We will soon see Escobar and Devlin fight to see who is the true Cruiserweight Champion, and Shawn Michaels just made things even more interesting without a single word.

Shawn Michaels walked out to the ring and pushed a ladder into the ring. A silent suggestion for Santos and Jordan to solve their situation the same way that Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon did all those years ago. A ladder match with both championships raised high above the ring. Devlin and Escobar seemed to like the idea and the cheers of the fans said that they did as well.

I am completely on board for a ladder match to take place. However, Jordan Devlin better find some allies in NXT real quick to counter Mendoza and Wilde. If not, they could be crucial parts of Santos Escobar beating Jordan Devlin to become the true Cruiserweight Champion. However, I believe that Jordan Devlin deserves this huge win.

He can later drop the title back to Escobar if necessary. Although, Jordan Devlin has the opportunity to be seen as a star in this story. In my opinion, Devlin needs this victory more than Santos does at this point. No matter the ending of the match, both men will steal the show. You can guarantee they will show just how good the cruiserweights really are.
