WWE WrestleMania 37: 3 possible opponents for Bayley on the PPV
By Mark Justice
Ding Dong! Hello! WWE WrestleMania 37 is near. Bayley is rightfully acclaimed as the longest reigning and greatest SmackDown Women’s Champion in WWE history but does not yet have an opponent at WrestleMania 37. It would be unjustifiable to leave someone of her caliber, distinction, drawing power, and prestige off of the biggest WWE PPV of the year, especially since she has NEVER had a one-on-one match at WrestleMania.
Bayley does not yet have an opponent at WWE WrestleMania 37. These are the three people she could face at the show.
3. Carmella
Bayley has plenty of history with Carmella going back to their days as BayMella in NXT. They were booked as best friends at that time, but they have never had a bitter rivalry on the main roster. Although there are only two weeks left before WrestleMania, it should not take long to spice things up between these two since they already have so much history to fall back on. They deserve a singles match, rather than a meaningless couple of spots in the kickoff show battle royal.
They both lost to Sasha Banks in the only SmackDown Women’s Title matches since the draft in October. Consequently, they both have something to prove and nothing to do at WrestleMania. Although they are both heels, they are both former SmackDown Women’s Champions who need to be on this year’s ‘Mania card. Bayley should defeat Carmella in the grand scheme of things and could reunite with Carmella post-‘Mania to help revamp the Women’s Tag Division.
2.) Michael Cole
Bayley has consistently teased a match with Michael Cole, and the ideal place to book that match would be WrestleMania 37. Michael Cole is actually 1-0 at WrestleMania because he defeated Jerry “The King” Lawler at WrestleMania 27 after the anonymous, computerized Raw general manager reversed the original decision — Lawler winning via pinfall — and awarded Cole the disqualification win due to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s interference as special guest referee.
Imagine Cole defending his streak a full decade later against Bayley? It would be quite amusing to see Bayley break that streak. Not all ‘Mania matches have to be serious. This match can be one of those intermission filler matches that gives everyone a good laugh while maintaining the momentum of the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion in history. Besides, watching Bayley defeat Cole decisively in his famous orange singlet is gold.
1.) Lita
Bayley has already made it known that her dream opponent is Lita. Bayley can host an open challenge at WrestleMania 37 as part of her beloved talk show, “Ding Ding, Hello!”, and Lita can make a surprise return to challenge Bayley. Since the fans are in attendance for this year’s WrestleMania, anyone would be remiss in neglecting the idea of WWE setting up a surprise return from a legend. Lita would fit that bill and give Bayley a match that the fans did not expect and will never forget.
WrestleMania needs Bayley, and Bayley needs WrestleMania. As Bayley said, if she does not get her very first singles match at WrestleMania 37, then the WWE Universe should at least get Sasha Banks (c) vs. Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in the main event of the PPV. The WWE should ideally book both of these. However, if neither is booked, the WWE fans will have to buckle up their seat belts because it will be a very bumpy ride. Stay tuned.
