WWE NXT Results: Kushida wins NXT Crusierweight title

WrestleMania has passed but the “WrestleMania Season” is not yet complete. WWE NXT has moved to Tuesdays and there is a lot of excitement heading into the first edition of the show coming off NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. With two new champions and the potential for new rivalries to kick off, moving to Tuesday is the right move to give the NXT roster the focus needed to present the best show possible.

The night started off with that new champion, as Kross’s music hit as soon as the broad again. He took the time to establish that his reign of dominance is beginning now and that the NXT brand has the best performers in the business.

The first match of the night was a tag team title match, with new champions MSK set to defend against Killian Dain and Drake Maverick.

Carter and Dain started off as the much larger Dain went right to the power game, attempting to end things quickly. The momentum changed when Lee and Maverick both tagged in, picking up the pace along the way. Maverick was able to take down Lee but could not make the pin, giving MSK the opportunity to isolate him and put on the damage. Maverick was able to get to Dain and he quickly mowed down Lee outside the ring.

MSK used tag team work to take Dain off his feet and they found a lot of success doing so. Lee hit a corkscrew senton, but Dain kicked out of the pinfall. Dain and Maverick looked to finish off MSK with Dain power bombing Maverick onto Carter, but Lee made the save. Getting Maverick alone in the ring allowed them to hit another combo move on Maverick, getting the pin to retain their titles.

MSK defeated Killian Dain and Drake Maverick via pinfall.

After the match, Imperium attacked Dain, laying him out in the middle of the ring.

Mercedes Martinez continued to chase after Robert Stone for his money and Jessi Kamea stepped in to fight for him.

Kamea attacked Martinez from behind and got off to a hot start. Martinez struggled to respond, as she continued to take stomps, elbows, and other forms of offense. Kamea missed a splash off the top rope and Martinez capitalized on that, hitting her version of White Noise to finish her off and get the pinfall. She got her hands on Stone and ran his pockets for the rest of the money that he owed her.

Santos Escobar was out next with Legado del Fantasma for an open challenge. The open challenge was answered by Kushida and they ended up in a singles match.

They started out immediately exchanging counter for counter, until Kushida locked in the hoverboard lock, forcing Escobar to retreat. Kushida continued to focus on the arm, until both men found themselves outside the ring where Escobar took control using the barricade and ring apron. Escobar would even whip Kushida into the steel steps, before leveraging a half crab on the steps. Escobar continued to beat on Kushida while berating him.

Kushida then fought back, dropping Escobar with a basement dropkick before going back to attacking the arm. Kushida then hit a series of suplexes, the first a double-underhook from the top, then a hammerlock suplex, but Escobar still kicked out. Kushida then went for the hoverboard lock again but Escobar blocked it.

The pace continued to pick up with both men exchanging kicks, before Escobar hit a backstabber. After a series of pin attempts, Kushida caught Escobar for the win, becoming the new NXT cruiserweight champion.

Kushida defeated Santos Escobar via pinfall to become the new NXT cruiserweight champion.

Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, and Raquel Gonzalez shared a moment in the ring together as the three former NXT members displayed their new titles after WrestleMania week.

Sarray is set to debut next week, and William Regal met with Roderick Strong and Marina Shafir as Strong resigned from NXT.

Leon Ruff and Swerve Scott met in the ring to close out their feud. Ruff got out to a great start but was immediately dropped by Scott who continued to put on the pressure. Ruff took the assault but bounced back, but Scott kept up with his misdirection offense, planting him off the top and then throwing him out of the ring.

Scott tried to continue bullying Ruff, but Ruff fought back, landing a big cutter off the top followed up by a top rope plancha to the outside. Ruff hit a big top rope Hurricanrana, but Scott kicked out again. The two continued to exchange moves and near falls until Scott countered another top rope Hurricanrana, followed up with planting Ruff to get the pinfall win.

Isiah Swerve Scott defeated Leon Ruff via pinfall.

The main event was an eight-person, mixed-tag team match. Dexter Lumis and Bronson Reed tagged with the NXT women’s tag champions, Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon. They were to take on the Way.

Austin Theory started off with Lumis and he immediately tried to jet from the ring. Candice LeRae tagged in bringing in Moon. She and Blackheart let out some tandem offense, giving them an early advantage.

After stepping outside to adjust, Theory returned to the ring and took over, slowing down Lumis. Lumis was finally able to get Reed into the ring and he began to smash both Gargano and Theory at the same time. Blackheart jumped back into the match after LeRae was tagged, but that did not work out well. LeRae even tried to attack Reed, but that did not work out in her favor. The women even started laying out the men as both LeRae and Moon landed dives onto their respective opponents.

Lumis locked in the Silence on Gargano but released it to check on Hartwell when she faked like she was knocked out. Lumis would walk out with Hartwell, while back in the ring Moon stood on Reed’s shoulders to hit the Eclipse on Theory. Even though the Way attempted to fight back, they could not save Theory from taking the Tsunami from Reed, giving his team the win.
