Tuesday nights are all about WWE NXT and this week was no different. Not only was Finn Balor returning for the first time since losing the NXT title, but there was an important women’s tag team title defense and what was to be a violent contest between two determined rivals.

The night started with a Falls Count Anywhere match between Leon Ruff and Isiah “Swerve” Scott.

Ruff tried to run out of the corner kick and was laid out immediately by Swerve. Ruff tried to be quick, but Swerve was aware of all his moves, countering him each time. The match soon ended up outside the ring and Swerve continued to batter the smaller man, tossing him into the barricades and planting him on the ramp with a side slam.

Ruff continued to fight back, kicking out of a high Superplex. Swerve did not let up, following him back outside the ring. That was the opening that Ruff needed, but he could not maintain the offense as Swerve countered him again with a shot to the ribs. Things further escalated with Swerve throwing a toolbox at Ruff’s head before they went backstage to continue fighting.

They would eventually find their way back in front of the crowd where Swerve would still be in control. Swerve went for another Superplex but this time it was Ruff countering into a Crucifix Bomb off the top rope. Ruff’s big moment came when he hit a Poisonrana off the apron, taking Swerve outside the ring.

The finish of the match came when the two men ended up outside the ring. It looked like Swerve was going to hit another cutter but was suddenly stopped by A.J. Francis who planted him on the barricade. Swerve capitalized with that moment, picking up the win back in the middle of the ring.

Cameron Grimes was out next to take on Asher Hale in singles action.

Grimes thought he would toy with Hale, but the smaller man was able to threaten Grimes with his grappling and quickness. Grimes was all business though, stomping away on Hale in the corner. Hale would have a moment, tying Grimes up in the corner and attacking his knees, then landing a missile dropkick.

Hale offense ran out very soon after that moment. Grimes planted him with a modified sidewalk slam, then finished him off with the Cave-In to get the victory.

Tag team action was up next with Grizzled Young Veterans against Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher.

Ciampa and James Drake started things off and Ciampa was well in control of the match. That continued when Thatcher came in, slowing things down and grinding away at Drake. Zack Gibson would get the tag and face the same pain with Thatcher twisting away at his arm. Thatcher locked in a tight sleeper hold that brought in Drake, causing Ciampa to enter and both men took a beating.

Thatcher remained in control until GYV went back to their cheating tactics to cause a distraction, bringing out underhanded tactics. That was the opening that GYV needed to isolate Thatcher on their side of the ring. That only worked for a few moments, as Ciampa was able to make the tag and went on a rampage against both men.

The battle between the two teams did not slow down. Eventually, all four were in the ring, slugging it out until Ciampa and Drake went over the top. Thatcher ended up fighting on his own inside the ring until Drake hit a dive on Ciampa. Gibson nearly finished off Thatcher, but he would not stay down. Thatcher somehow had Wade Barrett’s shoe, nailing Gibson in the face while Ciampa distracted the referee, giving their team the victory.

Sarray and Zayda Ramier were out next for women’s action.

Ramier and Sarray exchanged holds and moves from the very start and it looked like Sarray was going to get the advantage early. Sarray turned the tables and locked in a submission hold of her own, cranking on it until Ramier reached the bottom ropes. It would not help though, as Sarray hit another stiff dropkick into the ropes.

Sarray would go for a third dropkick but Ramier countered, picking up the pace to ground Sarray with a Sling blade. Ramier was not able to keep it up, however as she would end up taking a stiff German Suplex and a Saito Suplex, leading to Sarray pinning her in the middle of the ring.

Sarray defeated Zayda Ramier via pinfall.

LA Knight and Jake Atlas were set for singles action up next. Knight was able to control much of this match, cutting Atlas off time and time again. But Atlas was able to fire back, nearly pinning Knight at one moment. That would be his one spot of the match as Knight continued his offense, eventually pinning Atlas clean to get the win.

The main event of the evening featured Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon defending their titles against The Way.

The match started before the ring announcement with all four women brawling outside the ring. Tables and trashcans came out quickly, showing just how brutal this match was set to become. Indi Hartwell found herself stuffed into a trashcan and taking a double dropkick for her trouble. Candice LeRae was not safe either as she ate two trash can lids for her trouble.

The champions were prepared to put Hartwell through a stack of tables, but LeRae broke out a fire extinguisher to save her partner for the moment. The Way were back in control, setting up a table in the corner of the ring, but before it could be used the champions took over. LeRae found herself laid out on a ladder where Blackheart hit a top rope senton into her, doing damage to both women.

That ladder would continue to be used in the match, including LeRae landing a moonsault on it, followed up by Hartwell using it for a spinebuster. Hartwell was rolling until Blackheart put her through the announce table, diving onto her from the scaffolding. Hartwell got some sort of revenge, putting Moon through a table outside. But the main action occurred inside, when LeRae hit the Wicked Sister on a chair, pinning Blackheart to win the tag team titles.
