The pay-per-view after WWE’s biggest show has been renamed WrestleMania Backlash, just in case you weren’t sure what the backlash was from.

It featured matches that were leftover from ongoing feuds with a few new matchups. There were also Zombie Lumberjacks (yes, really). WrestleMania Backlash was sponsored by the movie Army of the Dead. It was heavily promoted throughout the pay-per-view, particularly with this match. It was as terrible as it sounds. I’m pretty sure Miz and Morrison are dead now. At least, the drip is finally dead.

Even with such a mediocre show, there were some bright spots. Let’s talk about the positives.

The Mysterios win gold at WrestleMania Backlash

One of the feel good moments of the night was when Rey Mysterio won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships with his son, Dominik. They made history as the first father-son duo to ever become tag team champs.

Besides being able to work with his son, the biggest reason that the elder Mysterio re-signed with WWE was to win tag team gold with his kid. It’s nice to see it come to fruition, especially for those of us who watched Dominik take part in storylines as a kid (try not to think about the “Is Eddie Dominik’s Uncle or Dad” nonsense).

Bianca retains her SmackDown women’s championship

Bianca Belair made herstory at last month’s WrestleMania when she was one of two Black women to main event “The Greatest Spectacle in Sports Entertainment”. In her first title defense, she faced off against her familiar foe, Bayley.

These two have great chemistry that strengthens every time they share the squared circle. As the veteran, Bayley knows how to pull the bEST out of the current champion. As champion, Bianca forces Bayley to step up and show that she is still a legit threat. Hopefully, we get a few more matches from these two.

Cesaro gets his first Universal Title shot

Cesaro finally main evented a pay-per-view in 2021. It took a decade, but Cesaro finally got his first shot at the Universal Championship.

“The Swiss Superman” is someone who could actually beat Roman Reigns cleanly to become champion. He’s easily one of the best wrestlers on the roster (and has been) and has been on a roll as of late. Cesaro went toe-to-toe with “The Head of the Table”. This was an excellent match.

Eventually, the “Tribal Chief” will fall and Cesaro could be the one that knocks him down.

In a surprising move, Hell In A Cell will be the next pay-per-view, taking place on June 20. No word on when Money in the Bank will take place or if it’s being rotated out for a while. Stay tuned to Daily DDT for the latest.
