Guerrillas of Destiny versus The Usos

The story here makes everything more interesting. The Usos and GOD come from two different lines of wrestling families that bring pride every time they step into the ring. Part of that story is already being told weekly on WWE SmackDown where Jimmy and Jey Uso have wrapped up in the Roman Reigns “Head of the Table” storyline. Using that as the catalyst, think of the story that could be told with members of both families such as Haku and Rikishi being brought in as additional story points. The angle almost writes itself.

From a match standpoint, the Usos have a deeper catalog of exceptional matches that fans can point back to as excellent moments. GOD are multiple-time champions in New Japan, but the excitement around them has waned in some regards. Still, this tag team match would be one that could kick off a major show with a strong build-up leading into it.

Kazuchika Okada versus Randy Orton

Kazuchika Okada is considered the ace of New Japan Pro. While some may talk about him as if he is lost a step, he is an individual that can be counted on to deliver when the lights shine the brightest. If the conversation came up about who is in a similar position within the WWE ranks, Randy Orton is one that fits into the slot perfectly. With more than two decades of experience under his belt, there is not much that Orton has not seen in this industry. He would be the perfect match for Okada and set the stage for answering the question of which promotion builds a better, long-term star.

Okada versus Orton would not have the same type of pace as Ibushi versus Rollins, but it would be a different type of match telling a story that is just as important. Both Orton and Okada have a style that allows them to wrestle at a slower pace, but that does not have to make the match boring at the same time. A match between Okada versus Orton would be something akin to two kings squaring off, one-on-one to see which kingdom is better than the other.

Roman Reigns versus Jon Moxley

Here is where things get weird. Roman Reigns is contracted under the WWE. Jon Moxley is contracted with AEW. How could they end up facing each other in a fantasy booking of New Japan versus WWE? The answer is the IWGP United States title which is currently in Moxley’s hands. Would this match happen? Probably not, as it is exceedingly difficult to see AEW and WWE working together in any way. But getting this version of Reigns and Moxley in the ring together would set the wrestling industry on fire.

After years of being under the WWE banner, both Reigns and Moxley went through their series of ups and downs. It took for Moxley to leave the promotion and Reigns to walk away during the COVID-19 era for them to turn a corner in character development, making them two of the most important acts in the industry today. Pitting these two against each other at this phase in their career would be a quite different look than most mainstream wrestling fans would recognize from their time in the Shield. These two would deliver something special in the build-up to the match and the bell-to-bell action. The answer to who comes out on top would be very debatable, but at the end of the day this is the type of match that fans of any promotion would tune in to see.

Professional wrestling is all about the characters and special moments that get fans to tune in, show after show. If New Japan and WWE find a way to come together at the table, these are the types of matches those fans will want to see. Will they get them, that is an entirely another story as business frequently gets in the way. But at the end of the day, wrestling fans can continue to dream.
