WWE SmackDown is like a well-done cheeseburger, while WWE Raw is like a “raw” burger without cheese. Our Amit Shukla agrees that WWE SmackDown has “outperformed” Raw in every sense of the word. On this week’s WWE SmackDown, there are two scheduled title matches: Apollo Crews (c) vs. Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Title and Mysterios (c) vs. The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. Will new champions be crowned? Or will the current champions continue their nascent title runs on the road to WWE Hell in a Cell 2021?

Speaking of which, WWE is four weeks away from WWE Hell in a Cell 2021. There are two matches scheduled for this PPV event: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship and Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Title. Based on WWE’s recent bookings on Friday Nights, it is expected that the following matches will be built up for the PPV: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Rey Mysterio for the Universal Title, Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title, Aleister Black vs. Big E, and Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell.

With that being addressed, it’s now time to preview and predict the matches and segments that will occur on this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown.

WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on June 4, 2021, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on FOX. Here are some predictions for this week’s show.

Apollo Crews (c) vs. Kevin Owens [Intercontinental Championship]

On last week’s WWE SmackDown, Kevin Owens defeated Apollo Crews via disqualification due to Commander Azeez’s interference in the match. Since he defeated Crews in non-title action, Kevin Owens was rewarded with a title opportunity against the champ on this episode but with Azeez barred from ringside. Crews won the Intercontinental Championship and retained the title each time because of Azeez’s assistance at ringside, so his title reign will inevitably be in jeopardy without his help.

Apollo Crews can either prove that he is a formidable Intercontinental Champion by finally retaining the championship by himself or can he can solidify his dependency on Commander Azeez as a future tag team by losing the title clean to KO. The latter is more likely, especially since Owens has not won a championship since 2017 and still needs a consolation prize for losing three times to Roman Reigns in back-to-back-to-back Universal Title matches in 2020 and 2021. While Crews can alternatively target the tag titles with Azeez, KO has no other direction on SmackDown, so he has to win here.

Prediction: Kevin Owens

The Mysterios (c) vs. The Usos [SmackDown Tag Team Championships]

On last week’s WWE SmackDown, the Mysterios retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against Dirty Dawgs while the Usos defeated the Street Profits to become the number one contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The Mysterios are thereby scheduled to defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against the Usos on what has been a thrilling and celebratory tag team week. The WWE usually books short reigns for the Mysterios, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see new champs crowned here.

Although many naysayers may believe that the Usos will lose here due to miscommunication after being manipulated by Roman Reigns, the Mysterios could also be screwed in this match by the mystery attacker who attacked Rey Mysterio last week. Whoever that mystery attacker is (*cough* Roman Reigns) will be the next opponent for Rey Mysterio and will be the reason the Mysterios lose the titles to the Usos. Prediction: Usos
