WWE: Top 10 greatest Intercontinental Champions of all-time
Some of the all-time greats have held the WWE Intercontinental Championship, but who were the best champions ever?
In terms of the championships in professional wrestling, most fans would agree that the goal is to win the big one. In WWE specifically, the goal seems to be to become WWE Champion—or, in modern times, Universal Champion.
A bucket list goal of countless wrestlers, as well as the most beloved title amongst legions of fans, however, is the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Known as the workhorse title, the Intercontinental Championship has been held by the best of the best in the ring. It’s also been around the waists of countless polarizing characters who appeared larger than life or perfectly hateable for the right star-on-the-rise to unseat them.
Regardless of who was holding the title, the general consensus has long been that the Intercontinental Champion is within arm’s reach of a World Title.
What separates the Intercontinental Championship from other second-tier titles, however, is that it doesn’t actually feel like a step below. Holding this prestigious belt means you’ve conquered a world of wrestlers who are generally regarded as the elite of the elite in the ring.
The proof is in the lineage, as past champions include AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, and Rob Van Dam.
As is the case with everything in professional wrestling, however, there are levels of greatness and prestige. With this list, we aspire to determine who the truly elite are when it comes to discussing the Intercontinental Championship—and what they did with the title is as important as how good they were overall.
The question is: Who are the 10 greatest WWE Intercontinental Champions of all-time? And how mad will you be about the omissions?
