Women’s wrestling is a popular draw in the industry. There are a number of names that come to the front of mind when talking about the top names, but there is one who seems to be left off some lists. That is Kay Lee Ray. After a dominating run in WWE NXT, it is time that she gets moved over to the main NXT brand where she can inform many that may be unaware that she is one of the best to step between the ropes.

Six hundred and forty-nine days. That is how long the woman known as KLR held the WWE NXT UK Women’s title. That is a title that has a strong legacy, even though it has only been held by four women. Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, KLR, and now the “Final Boss,” Meiko Satomura have placed that belt around their waists. Two of them have gone on to have strong runs in NXT, while Ripley is now the WWE Raw Women’s champion. It is time that KLR had the same opportunity placed in front of her.

The NXT women’s division is perhaps the best in wrestling today. It has depth from top to bottom and KLR would be another strong addition to the group. She made her presence felt once at the end of 2019 where she joined Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Shayna Baszler in a losing effort at NXT TakeOver: War Games. It was a brief stint before the COVID-19 outbreak that forced those of NXT UK into near obscurity as the brand was pushed further away from its Performance Center sibling. Even as the pandemic continues, some of the constraints have been lifted enough that could create a path for KLR to make her way into NXT sooner rather than later.

Kay Lee Ray would fit perfectly into this phase of the NXT women’s division. Imagine her putting on matches against Io Shirai, Zoey Stark, Zayda Ramier, and others. She could play up her heel character as a “friend” of Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai, only to turn her focus toward the NXT Women’s title. That roster is so stacked there is a wealth of potential opponents for KLR that would make sense.

Kay Lee Ray enjoyed a 649-day title run and still that accolade is not talked about enough because it occurred on the NXT UK brand. She is super talented and deserves an opportunity to be on a bigger platform such as NXT, perhaps leading to a main roster run in the future. Either way, the second half of 2021 needs to feature KLR stepping into NXT and making her presence known.
