Cassidy Haynes of BodySlam.net has today reported that WWE is internally coming up with a contingency plan if they are unable to run shows on the road. The reason is due to the rising Covid-19 cases in the USA caused by the Delta variant.

Haynes reported that “I was told that internally WWE expects that they will have to return to the Performance Center or another venue for their ThunderDome gimmick within a couple of weeks.”

It is also being reported that the SummerSlam pay-per-view at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in just a couple of weeks could be affected. The internal feeling is being described that SummerSlam can and will be canceled.

The state of Nevada has already mandated the use of mask-wearing, and it is becoming increasingly concerning that mass gatherings may also be affected.

A move back to the ThunderDome would be devastating for WWE

After their much-hyped return to sold-out arenas, with fans in attendance, it looks likely WWE may have to take two steps back. The momentum WWE has gained over the last few weeks has been refreshing, with a strong build heading into the huge SummerSlam event. The event was being suggested that it was being treated like it was WrestleMania.

Covid cases spreading in the USA are causing some concern right now, and if WWE has to revert back to the soulless ThunderDome it could be devastating. WWE has worked hard to get back on the road. It could impact WWE’s remaining months in 2021 if events are affected, as fans may not be as keen to get back to arena’s. It may also mean the ThunderDome may have to remain in their back pocket in case of another surge in cases. It isn’t ideal at all, but only time will tell if the ThunderDome will have to return.
