This week’s episode of Raw was another lackluster episode, unfortunately (at least, for the people who still watch the whole thing out of habit, obligation, or some semblance of hope that things will change).

Sure, there were some bright spots, but they felt few and far between compared to the usual garbage that pollutes the three hours that this show airs for. Sure, it’s tiresome, but it is what it is.

Describing everything WWE got wrong here would take too much time, so let’s just focus on the things that stuck out the most.

These are two of the things that went wrong on the Aug. 30 episode of Raw.

“Card subject to change” and WWE’s abuse of it

All last week, WWE advertised three matches for this week’s Raw: Sheamus vs. Bobby Lashley, John Morrison vs. The Miz, and Eva Marie vs. (sigh) Doudrop. Of those three, only one took place on the show. At least they didn’t wait until the wrestlers got to the ring before announcing the matches weren’t happening.

This is more of a widespread WWE issue, but it’s one that often manifests itself when it’s time for Raw. Yes, we all know about the “card subject to change” disclaimer, but that’s for unforeseen circumstances. Instead, WWE uses it to toss aside plans in favor of something they think is better, regardless of whether fans were excited about seeing what the promotion originally promoted.

It erodes the trust between the promotion and the audience and dampens the excitement for future announced matches. Perhaps WWE doesn’t care about that, but they should.

(sigh) Doudrop and Eva Marie’s “match”

It also doesn’t help when the one advertised “match” that does make air turns into a terrible angle designed to extend the feud. Yes, you’ll be astonished to hear that a scheduled Eva Marie match didn’t actually happen as a consequence of her non-existent workrate.

Still, WWE could’ve booked this in a way that doesn’t make (sigh) Doudrop look like a jerk for attacking a much weaker wrestler from behind before the match starts and an idiot for not waiting a couple of extra seconds to squash her in an official match (way to make those wins and losses matter, WWE).

Sure WWE did this to keep the feud going, but most fans would prefer to see (sigh) Doudrop run through Eva Marie and move on to something else.
