If you’re a fan of professional wrestling, you often imagine certain dream matches featuring a superstar from the past and obviously one from the present. However, due to injuries or the two superstars never crossing paths, it’s unfortunate that we’re never going to see it.

I have put together a list of my top five dream matches in wrestling history that I would’ve love to see.

5)  AJ Styles vs. Shawn Michaels

They are the two best technical wrestlers in their prime and it’s not even close. Shawn Michaels retired in March of 2010, six years before AJ Styles made his unforgettable WWE debut in 2016. However, Michaels did make a return to the ring in 2018 to team up with former tag team partner Triple H against Kane and Undertaker at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, the match was a disaster and didn’t come close to making the matchup with AJ Styles possible. Styles and Michaels would have the potential of having a WrestleMania caliber match.

4) CM Punk vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Two of the best to ever hold a microphone in their hands. I wouldn’t necessarily say that this would be the greatest match ever but the build-up between the two would be amazing. During CM Punk’s ‘Pipebomb’ promo in 2011, he was seen wearing a Stone Cold t-shirt which makes a dream match between the two even better. Stone Cold retired in 2003, way before CM Punk could make a name for himself in WWE.

The two were featured during a WWE ’13 promotion and tension boiled over so much to where you’d wish they were able to square off against each other. If they do this during a video game promo, imagine what they could’ve done inside of a wrestling ring.

3) Kurt Angle vs. Bret Hart

This one had zero chance of ever becoming a reality. As Hart’s career came to an end in WCW, Angle’s career in WWE was just taking off. Although this match happening was never a reality, it’s always nice to dream about two of the greatest submission specialists being able to face each other. Hart made a brief return to the ring in 2010 as he won the United States Championship by defeating The Miz but Kurt Angle was in the middle of his TNA career. Since it had no real chance of happening, it’s always nice to keep this one in my imagination.

2) Sting vs. The Undertaker

The thought of these two facing off gives me chills. Due to Sting’s wrestling career being divided between WCW and TNA, this one also never had a real shot of happening. Sting appeared in a vignette for the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game which would bring up numerous amount of rumors for his WWE debut. Sting made his first-ever appearance during the 2014 Survivor Series PPV by attacking Triple H with a Scorpion Death Drop. After a brief run in WWE, only facing Triple H and Seth Rollins, Sting would announce his retirement at the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.

Even though we’ve should’ve got Undertaker vs. Sting at WrestleMania 31 which resulted in the two having two completely matchups, a neck injury for Sting suffered at Night of Champions vs. Seth Rollins robbed us of the dream match that we’ve wanted for so long.

1) Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan

Easily the two biggest names to never have a match together. Stone Cold began his ‘Austin 3:16’ gimmick after his historic promo during King of the Ring 1996, long after Hogan had already departed WWE for rival competitor WCW. When WCW folded in 2001, rumor had it that Hogan was on his way back to WWE, making this dream match very possible. Unfortunately, things did not work out as Hulk Hogan faced off against The Rock at WrestleMania X8 and Stone Cold left the company shortly after. Upon Austin’s return, it was revealed neck injuries that he had suffered during the course of his career made it impossible to be medically cleared, and was forced into retirement. A missed opportunity by the WWE to give us such a high-profile matchup.
