Impact announces the return of the Knockouts Knockdown
Another major wrestling company is giving fans an all-women’s event. Impact Wrestling announced the return of the Knockouts Knockdown on October 9. The show will air on the Impact Plus App and the IMPACT Ultimate Insiders YouTube channel. The matches will be filmed live this weekend at Skyway Studios in Nashville.
Seven-time Knockouts champion Gail Kim made the announcement live on Facebook. It will be the first Knockouts Knockdown since 2017. She announced that Mercedes Martinez will be making her debut. She also confirmed that Lady Frost and Renee Michelle will also be in action.
Former Knockout and ring announcer, Christy Hemme, also joined Kim on Facebook Live. The show will also have a woman ring announcer, commentary team, and referees. Hemme confirmed that she will not be the ring announcer for Knockouts Knockdown, but she did give her approval for “someone who is much better than me”. Kim will also be appearing at Knockouts Knockdown.

The women also announced the Daffney Memorial Monster’s Ball match. The late Daffney competed in the inaugural Monster’s Ball Match against Taylor Wilde in 2009. Wilde has recently returned to the Impact Zone to compete.
From the press release:
"“There is so much planned, so much excitement for Knockouts Knockdown – I know the fans will be excited to watch it live this weekend, starting Friday afternoon, at The IMPACT Zone in Nashville,” Kim said. “Doing something to honor Daffney’s memory is something that everyone involved with the event and others are thrilled to be able to do.“She was a great wrestler and a better person. No one will forget Daffney; we want to honor her.”"
Hemme hasn’t been involved with Impact Wrestling for a very long time, but will be appearing at Knockouts Knockdown. Gail says there will be several surprises that she and Hemme were very careful not to let slip. They did confirm some familiar faces from the Knockouts division will be involved, including a former Knockouts champion.
Current Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo will be facing a surprise opponent. Rachael Ellering, Tasha Steelz, and Savannah Evans will also be competing. Kim said many current Knockouts will also be competing.
This is another huge moment for women’s wrestling. Coming on the heels of NWA’s EMPOWERRR, it’s important to keep women’s wrestling in the spotlight. It’s exciting to see other big company’s step up and propel women’s wrestling forward. However, these can’t be one-off events to appease the fans. There must be follow-through from all companies to push women’s wrestling forward.
