WWE WrestleMania 38: We Need A Mega-Star, We Need A Great One
WrestleMania is the grandest stage of them all in the WWE. However, the last two WrestleMania’s were lacking something big: The WrestleMania “Mega-Star.”
Despite having the likes of Bad Bunny, Goldberg, John Cena, and Edge between them, WrestleMania 36 and 37 felt like they were lacking something when they were all over. They provided the marque matches and major superstars that the fans expected, even though that the fans weren’t even there for one. After a WrestleMania without fans, it was the fans that became the megastars at WrestleMania 37.
Things have almost gotten back to normal with the fans back each and every week. Now, the company will be able to plan for big things to come this WrestleMania season. As usual, WrestleMania will be expected to do great things when it finally returns to the AT&T Stadium in Texas. Every time WrestleMania has come to Texas, the fans have been left with a spectacle. Including WrestleMania 17 in Houston, Texas that is considered by many fans as the greatest WrestleMania to take place.
The last time WrestleMania came to Texas was for WrestleMania 32 and once again Texas made the WrestleMania record books. WrestleMania 32 currently holds the record for most fans in attendance. The night was headlined by the conclusion of the feud between Roman Reigns and Triple H. However, the night also included shocking returns from many legends. Shawn Michaels, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and Mick Foley returned to take the fight to The League of Nations.
However, the biggest return is arguably The Rock. Teasing a fight with Bray Wyatt, The Rock had a sudden match against Erick Rowan and defeated him in six seconds to set a WrestleMania record. If that wasn’t enough, John Cena also returned to help The Rock even the odds against The Wyatt Family. The surprises on top of a stacked card, which mostly lived up to the anticipation, sent the fans home pleased. This WrestleMania deserves the right to hold the attendance record; if the count was legitimate or not.
Six WrestleMania’s later and the WWE is on the way back to Arlington. The landscape of the company has changed drastically in the past few years. Many superstars that were on the show that night are no longer with the company or have retired. Although, the roster is still full of major stars that the fans love watching each week. There is no doubt that the WWE has the talent and the ability to break their own record, the question is only how they do so.
With WrestleMania less than six months away and the Royal Rumble even closer, WrestleMania season is right around the corner. This means that I am certainly not the only person talking about WrestleMania already. Honestly, it is a word that probably never leaves anybody’s mind, right? The moment WrestleMania is over, we are already thinking about what is going to take place the next time. And we aren’t the only ones guilty of doing so.
WWE has even set up the next Main Event of WrestleMania on the Raw the night after. The company spent an entire year building up the eventual showdown between John Cena and The Rock. That goes to show exactly how much the grandest stage of them all means. In March 1985, Vince McMahon gambled everything with the first-ever WrestleMania. Since the first, McMahon has never stepped into WrestleMania without the same mindset.
The Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay was already sold out and Drew McIntyre was already guaranteed a Main Event match. The WWE moved forward and provided a show in front of no fans that still put a smile on the fan’s faces. At WrestleMania 37, the company was excited to be able to get the fans back. Nothing else mattered besides the fans coming back and have a live crowd to perform in front of.
This year, it is time to get back to the status quo. The fans are back and it is time for the WWE to remind everybody exactly who they are. It has arguably been over two decades since WWE has been rivaled as it is today with the emergence of All Elite Wrestling. The WWE needs to show how great they are now more than ever. With so much WrestleMania greatness in Texas, the WWE truly needs a great one.
When the WWE knows they need a great one, they just happen to know where to find one. Ten years after The Rock made his grand return to fight at WrestleMania 28, could it finally be time for The Rock to come back? If The Rock does decide to return to the WWE, this won’t be the same company he last visited. This is a version of the WWE where Roman Reigns has been reigning as The Tribal Cheif for over a year.
Roman Reigns has been putting family first for over a year stating that his dominance has been for his family. Everything he has done thus far has been for his Samoan heritage, his bloodline. He has been the most dominant and ferocious version of himself that we have ever seen. When somebody has stepped up to The Tribal Cheif, they have fallen to his feet. Roman has defeated all challengers that have stepped in his path.
From Hall of Fame challengers like Edge to future Hall of Famers like John Cena to his own cousins, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Roman Reigns has made everybody acknowledge him. At this point, we are only days away from Roman Reigns facing Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel. If Roman Reigns defeats The Beast, I believe there is one more challenger Roman needs to face before eventually losing the Universal Championship.
At WrestleMania 38, it should be the dream match that comes to life. Future WWE Hall of Famer versus Future WWE Hall of Famer. Cousin versus Cousin. The Tribal Cheif versus The Great One. Roman Reigns versus The Rock would be a match that would bring in viewers all around and a perfect choice for WrestleMania in Texas. However, when it comes down to an actual match, this is a match that Roman Reigns should win and then the greatest will have all acknowledged him.
