Big E vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE Championship is a can’t miss feud for the company.

Monday Night Raw saw Seth Rollins earn his opportunity for the WWE Championship when he defeated Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, and Kevin Owens in a ladder match. Earlier in the night, each competitor made their claim as to why they deserved the chance at competing against Big E. Owens was the final one to lay his claim, making it clear that he wants gold after going the longest period of his WWE career without it. Later in the night, he went up to Balor and showed a side of him that almost sounded desperate.

The former “Prizefighter” turned everyday fan-favorite noted to Balor that despite the respect that Owens has for him, he would not hold back and that it was every man for himself. An interesting thing to say, seeing that Owens and Balor have never necessarily been super close on television. It showed a side of Owens that fans have been waiting for. One where desperation turns into determination. And that’s where the story between Owens and Big E comes in.

The beauty of The New Day as a whole is that they never fail to tell a story no matter how long it’s been since that story was told. Fans saw it in the WWE Championship reign of Kofi Kingston, where the feud between him and Randy Orton that stemmed back a decade was brought to light.

Or when Kingston was chasing the WWE Championship this past summer, reminding the world that he never got a rematch that he deserved after losing the title in seconds to Brock Lesnar in 2019. Xavier Woods, of course, reminded everyone how much he wanted the King of the Ring after a lifelong push to earn it.

There have been times that these stories always come back to the surface which makes the potential feud between Big E and Kevin Owens perfect. Fresh off the WWE Championship win of Kingston at WrestleMania 35, Big E was injured and forced to be off television for the time being.

That led to Owens stepping in, offering his services to Kingston and Woods to keep The New Day a three-man group while Big E recovered. Owens even went as far as calling himself “Big O” before eventually turning on both men with the want of becoming WWE Champion. Big E has gone on record since then to explain how seeing himself be replaced hurt in ways when he couldn’t do anything, just for Owens to turn on his friends and once again — not be able to do anything about it.

The entire preface to what the feud can be is right at WWE’s fingertips. They just have to recognize that they have it which isn’t always the case. Owens has been on the backburner in the eyes of WWE for months now with his last “feud” being with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. One where he would run down to the ring, get attacked, and the segment would be over.

Both men are capable of making this a great story and the only hope is that what we saw Monday can be marked as the beginning of Owens returning to the main event scene once and for all. His feud with Roman Reigns to conclude 2020 and to kick off 2021 was a must-see most of the time with their matches being the caveat to what many call an all-time reign for “The Tribal Chief.”

Owens has a lot to offer and with rumors that he potentially could be on his way out of WWE with his contract expiring in January, the time to go with this angle is running out. Day 1 is the newest WWE PPV, taking place on Jan. 1, 2022, in Atlanta. That feels like the perfect location for this match to culminate and you use the normally boring period of post-Survivor Series to pre-Royal Rumble to tell a story that is best for Big E and Owens.

Everything WWE needs is right in front of them. Now they need to simply allow Big E and Owens to tell the story and create the potential feud we know that they can have.
